The most amazing Halloween costume EVER. It would be, too.

And everyone, prepare to feel old--someone dressed their kid up as Jareth from Labyrinth.

So, neogabi arrived safe and whole at her end destination--our house. (For anyone who didn't know, which is likely everyone, neogabi was moving in with us.) To celebrate her arrival--and getting the new place, and getting catdancer's disability in the first place--we cracked the bottle of cobra whisky to take thimblefuls of the stuph in celebration.

From the Spirits Review:

Taste: Fishy, hot taste, almost like drinking peanut oil and alcohol with notes of ginseng. Almost immediate, slightly disquieting numbing of every part that comes into contact with it. Finish is hot. Closest equvalent taste is orange roughy/monkfish cooked in a hot piquant oil.Slight tingling effects in certain exremities and well. other areas, along with numbing - yes, I can see what they mean... hmm...

Having tasted it, I can now confirm--it being based in rice whisky, it has a distinctly sharp, acetate odor, with a sweet mossy finish, so it smells like whisky sitting next to paint thinner. It doesn't smell terrible, or undrinkable, and it could be worse, but it's definitely not high-grade.

We erred wildly on the side of caution, because of that "slightly neurotoxic" label spoken in song and story, and took about a thimble-full each.

I won't speak for the others, but for me, it caused nearly instantaneous slurring of words, and a burst of heat on the left side of my face--curiously, the half of my face previously affected by that moment of atypical Bell's palsy. Moreover, I began to drool, and Gabi quickly brought over a paper towel, while I blinked away slight tears from my eye.

For about two minutes, I was slurring words, then the words became more distinct. The bright burst of heat lasted another ten minutes, and then faded.

My lips? Are still numb fifteen minutes later. From a thimble-full, yes.

Whoo, let's not do that again for years....but whoo, she's here! And WHOOOO, we didn't die toasting Loki! WOOT!

[Edit at 5:29 am: The lips are no longer numb. The orbit around my left eye, and the upper part of my left cheek, are still numb, however. Baby cobra venom is powerful stuph.]
