animals Man, is this true. So--though it was a month of agonizing over what we were going to do, we finally decided, and tonight, went to HomeTown Buffet for a Thanksgiving night out. First, it was packed--but second, and more importantly, they kept the line moving. And there were zero problems--people who started to complain got instant attention from management and calmed right down. While a couple times people nearly backed into me or the girl, or Winter, for the most part even the people massing around the buffet tables, were relatively polite.
I was a little bad--I had some baked fish and a tiny slice of au jus-soaked turkey--but for the most part, I kept to no meat--which, admittedly, left me with a lot of starch: macaroni and cheese, their odd version of potatoes au gratin (which seemed to involve chunks of bell pepper), mashed potatoes (which, okay, I had with turkey gravy). I rounded things out with steamed carrots and two helpings of squash.
Then it was dessert and going back home--and oh, man, they have one of the absolute best desserts I've ever had--no sugar added, vanilla frozen yogurt. Oh man...I dug around on their ice cream toppings bar and finally added a half-spoonful of shredded coconut, and another half-spoonful of crushed walnuts.
It was very nearly a negative flavor, that stuph. Slight bits of crunchy and chewy from the nuts and the coconut shreds, but mostly--it was just cold. An entire small bowl of cold.
I adored it.
Then we came home and watched the last bit of Planet of the Apes, followed by the four sequels. Very nearly a perfect day.
