Yesterday,
encapsulate and
joeyfalconetti took us out to the sprawling Bridgeport Cinemas in trendy urban Tigard to see Nightmare Before Christmas. In 3-D.
Okay, apparently the
Nightmare Before Christmas re-release is into select theatres only. But believe me, if it's ANYWHERE near you, and you liked the original...you NEED to see this movie.
This movie brought my sweeping love for Disney back in full force. All the things they've gotten wrong for fifteen years...they got right here. They made Nightmare a layered diorama that felt so real we could--if we wished--walk right into the screen. The new tech is maybe inches from actual third-dimension holography. We've hit another patch of living in sci-fi. :)
And I don't think they took a single misstep. There were things that jumped off the screen, sure, but for the most part? It was just depth. They didn't pull things so much from the front, they just added and layered out the back. And the little things refilmed for the re-release were so nicely blended in.
I was charmed, enchanted, blown away, and transported for two hours. If there's any chance at all, guys....you have to see this one.
Daphne Rubin-Vega has a marvelously edged voice that I'm completely whelmed by. She was one of the original Broadway cast members of RENT, and has done a ton of marvelous vocal work. The frustrating thing about this is, I can't track down lyrics. But trust me--if you've ever felt invaded by an ex-love, had someone take up residence in your head and refuse to leave....this is your song.
Mental tenant
You're renting too much space in my head
I can't get an eviction
In spite of all the rude things you said...
Heh. Relevant right now for personal reasons, but becoming less so. *snerk*
I can't eat
I can't think
I feel ill, now
Wide awake
I can't take
One more pill
And I can't...kill you...
Oh, yeah.

First day of the big weekend, a new patron requested Together in Electric Dreams, the song from the
movie, and I sang along with it on stage. It really is the SL theme song--and if you've never seen the movie, what kind of computer user are you? Go thou forth, and rent this thing!
Together in Electric Dreams
Giorgio Morodor/Philip Oakley
I only knew you for a while
I never saw your smile
'til it was time to go
Time to go away (time to go away)
Sometimes it's hard to recognise
Love comes as a surprise
And it's too late
It's just too late to stay
Too late to stay
We'll always be together
However far it seems
(love never ends)
We'll always be together
Together in electric dreams
Because the friendship that you gave
Has taught me to be brave
No matter where I go I'll never find a better prize
(find a better prize)
Though youre miles and miles away
I see you every day I dont have to try
I just close my eyes, I close my eyes
We'll always be together
However far it seems
(love never ends)
We'll always be together
Together in electric dreams...
