So,
more fun at Geek Fair. As promised. And a rundown of the usual suspects.
I figure this one's worth posting the "real name" because Cat's so damned cute. This is, btw, the most incredible thing about Geek Fair--they spent a ton of time thanking her for coming out, and she kept saying, yeah, but I just came out with Nema, what's the big? They do their best to make every volunteer feel that cherished. It's a huge difference from other nonprofits, even.
I needed an image to send to the Snapdragons, and this is what the photographer gave me (same guy who took all of these). It works.
Tegan calling someone out. This, to date, is our youngest Geek volunteer ever. She's three. And has she got attitude...man. But she'll actually look at her parents and say, "We go to the Geeks now." And nine times out of ten they say, "Yes, dear, right away." :)
This is Joe, the photographer, leader of the insane Advanced Testing groupies, general know-it-all. I'm not knocking him with that, I'm serious; I haven't found a topic yet he doesn't know about. He's seriously cool.
This is
gambitnut, another of our Build instructors, and a genuine sweetheart of a guy. I do my best to patiently wheedle all the information I can out of him so I know better sooner. :)
Here's Nathan, standing next to
gambitnut and
gambitnut's mom, Marie. Nathan is the sweetest, most gentle guy I have ever met in my life. He'd be chewed up and spit out in my world in three seconds. I am incredibly grateful I'm not in my world at Free Geek. Nathan tries to make sure we're fed, juiced, given produce (when he gets it), given hugs (when we need it), and in general, given great care and all the attention he has.
You don't find that everywhere.
Shawn, my supervisor, she of the brokey foot. She's also the volunteer coordinator and the goddess of Outreach. And this was her second (of three!) costume change that day. With the
brokey foot.
If you look closely, you can just make out on her 'name badge' the words I fell off my bike. She got tired of people asking her what she did to herself. (A lot of folks asked.) What that doesn't tell you is she fell off her minibike going thirty-five miles an hour down a long hill. I'm surprised she only broke her foot. I'm amazed she didn't end up crumpled like tin foil on the side of the road somewhere. Frankly.
In other news...day started out slightly overcast and appreciably cooler than the previous week. I was basking in the not-sun...until a little past eleven-thirty, whereupon the Evil Daystar made up for lost time by melting anyone within reach into little puddles of sweat and whinging. To the point that people--who normally have more tact than this--said TO MY FACE "I'm taking [whatever] off to a cooler part of the building, with air conditioning."
Yeah, fine, sure...BITE ME.
In other news, I'm going out tonight, because according to the state of Oregon, they never got my latest re-app for OHP, and are making no attempt to look for it, and, since I've never lost one before, this obviously means I'm to blame and so sad, too bad, I'm off public health insurance.
THE STATE CAN BITE ME TOO. Bastards.
