Yay!
crymsin_lillyhas joined the pack! She's another RL friend I suckered into asked if she wanted to join LJ.
So, yay her. Me, I'm a manipulative bitch. (Wait, doesn't everyone know that already??)
Speaking of which...the Crymsin one sent me links:
this is a skull drinking mug,
this is a full tea set,
this leads to a whole bunch of piratical goodness, as is
this site...
this I want in my size (why yes I will drink yer scurvy wine, ye swabber!),
this caused huh and
this is...just...weird.
There are more. I'm just slingin' y'all the highlights.
This from
delicarose: If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, (even if we don't speak often) please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me. It can be anything you want - good or bad - BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE.
When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON'T ACTUALLY remember about you.
C'mon. Hit me with your best shot.

These were all tipped by new friend
razzle. Still have no idea how she found me, but am assuming it's somewhat to do with fashion. And/or Firefly. :)
And sadly...this is true:
You are 71% Conspiracy Nut
You are a conspiracy nut. The government tops your list as the least trustworthy. You are into looking behind what you are given and analyzing propaganda to discover the truth. It's out there.
Take this quiz at
QuizGalaxy.com Yep. Never had a flu shot, I do believe the government is lying to us, and that there's something strange going on at Area 51.
On the other hand, I will drink tap water, and there was no second gunman, so I didn't pull 100%. :)
Devil's Panties:
Technically? You're supposed to go to the doctor before
Death shows up. :)
Also,
do not take advice from Death.
Save that I can't stand high heels...
I like the way her friends relax.
The plan is to make boys cry.
starlasoma asked me to pull somewhat of a fic rec for House. I don't know that my tastes and hers--hells, my tastes and anyone's save
lemmealone, who seems to be in the same category of liking angst/agony/oh-God-why-did-this-HAPPEN-hug me fic...*gryns*...will mesh. Still, I'll do my best.
Goodnight, by
basingstoke, hurts in all the places, right and wrong, and is comforting, too, weirdly. It's a morning after with the night before and a breakup on the way. Really, this one has everything except more of the story. :)
And then there's Kass. My gods. Kass. That woman's going to break me by writing almost what's needed, and leaving us hanging, begging for the rest.
This is the best I've found by her so far.
And I should really mention Pun. Actually, I should do this properly, because
pun's also a fellow LJ-er. And writes a lot about House--among other fandoms--in her journal. Pun tends to write these sparky little punch-hitters in SV (though once she did a longer piece,
Le Dormeur du Val, that runs pretty well) and then turned on a dime and dove into the littlest fandom that could. I like
Denial for the pain of it, and the richness of unexpected emotion. (Plus, the phrase "rainwater kisses" keeps floating through my head. Great image. Great image.) I also like
Drastic and Repugnant Measures for the sheer House-based desperation in getting through to Wilson. Takes great fortitude, patience, and not a little screaming at the top of House's mental lungs, I'm sure.
While we're on the topic of LJ-based writers, let me briefly mention
barely_bean's far-too-short contribution
Excessive Tape and Major Miracles. It bops along exactly like an episode, and then the good stuph comes, only you're not really hooked into it being the good stuph, because your stomach's knotting up and you're breathless, waiting for the moment when Things. Happen...and then you're tumbled off the edge, out of the fic, when they profoundly don't. It's unsettling. Good, but unsettling.
Kind of like House/Wilson, if you think about it.
On the other hand,
isagel--yeah, yeah, I know, but I refuse to go to FF to look for this stuph, not when I've seen what the 13-year-olds post there on a regular basis--knows exactly how far she can push us, and in
A Differential Diagnosis for Green Silk, she does exactly that. There is banter. There are sharp edges. There is Vicodin use. There is sex.
It's very nearly, almost completely, perfect in every way. And another wife on the way out, even. Nicely done.
Way way back in the beginning, before I discovered any of the above, I signed up for
house_slash--where I lurk to this day--and found a couple gems I still like to reread now.
First is
summerfling's
The Only Way He Knows How. It's a short sweet little discourse on how possessive Greg House is about James Wilson's...things. :) (Keep in mind she's since changed the ending, and I liked the first way better. But, to be fair, the original ending is tagged on at the bottom, so yay.) Keep in mind, though, Summer has a darker side--it's clearly evident in
A Love Restrained. The best description of this one is pain--it's going to put you through hell. But the deepest wound happens halfway before the story ends, and it comes wrapped entire around this one line: In turn, House's hands trace the paths of his bare skin, surprisingly soft because he expects each touch to finally be the one where he cuts himself on Wilson.
Yeah. You can feel the ache already, can't you? But it's so worth the read.
nestra writes mostly in
housefic, which is mostly a home for non-slash epics. Still, once in a while, House/Wilson tales sneak in and party.
Some By Virtue Fall was one of them. Weirdly, I like this one because of how realistic the leg-loss depiction is. The muscles in my legs didn't die, it's just that most days, below the knee, I don't really have legs--I have occasionally supportive masses of Jell-O. I don't have all the pain issues, but oh, man, do I know how it feels to have a leg completely cut out from under you. One minute, as the story says, it's there and it's supportive--the next minute it's gone so completely you think it got cut off when your attention wandered. Sudden, that feeling. "Some By Virtue Fall"? Captures that sensation precisely.
Oh, and there's buttsex, so yay. :)
There's another one that features no sex, but a nearly spelunkingly-deep (I don't care, it is a word, I say so, stop looking at me like that) understanding of character, for everyone--House, Wilson, Cuddy, and even the mysterious Julie, Ms. Third Ex-Wife. Neat. Posted to
house_slash several months ago,
A Momentary Lapse of Reason remains a slowly-expanding favorite.
And...though there's a lot more I could rec...I'm going to end with a tale about The Car.
The Second Diabolic Plan--I don't remember if there was ever a first Diabolic Plan--was good enough I begged for it for the world's wee-est ficrec list.
starlasoma and
lemmealone, if you remember this last one, that's why--I posted it there.
And now, friends and sausages, the fever's getting to me again and there's only so much hot sauce one woman can drink of an evening. At this rate there's three ounces in me already, and I'm going to need a new bottle tomorrow!
