i hold a belief that when good things happen to me for no reason i'm writing some kind of karmic IOU to the universe that will be cashed in by something bad happening to me for no good or apparent reason. because of this i can never completely enjoy being lucky and am never completely miserable when i'm unlucky. the overall effect is a life outlook i could probably best describe as cynical optimism.

it's sort of the life philosophy equivilent of eating plain cream of wheat for every meal of your life.
