Kettle Corn And Mermaids For The Win
My Halloween night began as all Halloween nights should: with squealing, adorable gay boys.
I was just sitting there on the grass divider, waiting for Allee and her people to find parking an make their way down Santa Monica. Had my cool costume, had my kettle corn, and all was right in the world. The security guys hung out with me for a bit. A couple people asked if I could walk in my costume....because, you know, I can just magically appear in the middle of the street without having to walk. And then...
"Oh my god! Are you eating POPCORN????"
"....Yes? Would you like some?"
"Oh, that's alright! But can we PLEASE take your picture?"
Apparently, for gay men, popcorn-eating mermaids are a win on the cute list. And half an hour later, people were still taking my picture. It was literally non-stop for thirty minutes. I felt like a character at Disneyland. There are well over fifty Japanese tourists who now have shots of me, four little girls dressed as Disney princesses, and one infant dressed as a koi. It was amazing. Did you know that Japanese girls really do the peace sign thing? I had no idea. I thought that was made up.
Of course, there were the weirdos. Old men who really had no business focusing their cameras on my tits. The Nigerian guy who came back three times and kept asking for my number. And the drunk guy who kissed Allee and molested me. That was not the most fun thing in the world. But hey, we saw Mini KISS, took shots of the Jesus People (our happy little protesters), we got kisses from drag queens, I got a picture with Aquaman (who is the lamest hero ever, but come on, I was a freaking mermaid. It had to happen), and Jeremy was the cutest Oscar the Grouch I've ever seen. Not to mention that in a sea of half a million people, I managed to run into Shelby Bond. That totally made my night.
And I had kettle corn.
I love Halloween.
