On Monday I am getting set up with my c-pap machine. When I did the sleep study with it on, I felt like I slept much better, and I stopped snoring altogether, which will make my poor husband happy. I still had episodes of apnea, though, so they are going to try to increase the pressure on the machine and see what happens. The doctor bluntly told me if I lost weight, it's likely that I won't need the machine at all. But in order to lose weight, I need to feel less tired so I can exercise, so this is where we start.

Summer is just about on the doorstep here in Nelly World. My daughter had her last day of pre-school yesterday, complete with an entertaining performance from all the kids in her class and a picnic at a local park. I expect lots of playdates over the summer in order to keep her busy. She will be finishing her tumbling class next week, which we will both also miss. Her instructor showed me the correct way to help my daughter do a bridge, which she does quite well. She also told me my daughter is borderline to get into the advanced class, because she can pretty much do a cartwheel and usually follows directions well. However, she noted that my daughter either sometimes shows up raring to go, or is in a completely opposite mood, and she can't have that kind of behavior in the advanced class. I agreed - I think my daughter definitely needs to mature a little more. She is the baby in our family (unless you count the dog), has another full year of pre-school to go through, and I think we just need to wait another year and she'll be all set for advanced tumbling.

We also have her last playgroup on Monday and all I can say is Thank You, Jesus. I served on the board this year and I have never met a lazier and less involved group coordinator than the one we had. I busted my ass doing the communications part, but sometimes it just felt like a waste of time, because people didn't show up and/or they didn't want to do anything to help. I don't even know if next year's coordinator is going to do the job or not. The woman who is supposed to be taking my place already backed out of a couple of things, so all I can tell the new board is good luck. My daughter is going to be in pre-school this fall when the group meets so we are done.

My son's last day of school is Thursday. He enjoyed the heck out of first grade and finishing up t-ball. Both he and his sister have been fish in my parents' pool practically every day this week, so I expect to be there a lot this summer, and also have lots of playdates for him. I haven't quite figured out what kinds of other activities I will get both kids involved in, but our public library has a few things planned, and so does a local nature conservatory that is fairly inexpensive. My next door neighbor also has a nice above-ground pool, and one of my friend's moms has an great in-ground pool in case we want to go somewhere different, and we have a town lake and many nearby beaches, so I am just going to have to suck it up and take them places so we don't all go our of our minds.

We had hoped to fence the yard in this year, but I don't think that is going to happen. The new shed was a little on the expensive side, although it was worth every penny. We really need to focus on getting new windows and insulating this house, or our gas bill may well send us into tricky financial territory this winter. Plus gas for the car is now up to $4/gallon.

On the bright side, my Triple A card paid for itself this past week when I locked my keys in my car. For God's sake. Fortunately, although it was sweltering hot, no child or animal got locked in, and we had a shady place to wait for the tow truck guy to come and pop the lock. Further proof that I should really be a natural blonde.

life, kids
