I was doing that frantic morning rush thing today when there was an enormous crash in my daughter's bedroom. It seems she decided to climb the lower drawers of her bureau to get to the top one where her underwear are instead of asking me for help, and the whole thing went over. She was fine, thank God, but it sort of set the tone for an unfortunate day.
Hardly anyone showed up for the girl's playgroup, for which I had dragged my ass out of the house early to open the building. Grrr. We still managed to have a nice time with the half dozen kids that graced us with their presence, so it wasn't all bad.
We did an errand, and then we went to Wendy's (that Mecca of culinary delight) for lunch, during which my daughter alternately played with or ignored her cheeseburger, until I had to assist this nearly 5 y/o child with eating. For Christ's sake. A couple more errands and then we went home.
I then had to call the city board of health about the house next door to us. I think I have mentioned this house here maybe once or twice in the past, but it's pretty much abandoned. For a couple of weeks, we saw a plumber and electrician there, and lights on at night, and thought we might finally be getting actual neighbors, but nope, no action since then. Once in a blue moon, someone comes by and gets stuff out of the garage, but that's it. The big problem is they have let the front and back yard become completely overgrown, so it's like living next to a ugly, nasty meadow. The field is quite inviting to all sorts of wild critters, the worst being ticks and field mice, which have no problem crossing the driveway to our freshly mowed lawn and setting up shop. Even with the Frontline Plus, we've pulled ticks off our poor Lyme-diseased dog, and the lady next door (on the other side) has pulled them off some of her daycare kids. It's fucking nasty, and it irritates me because if the dumb fucks who owned the abandoned house just came to mow once in a while or hired someone to do it, we likely wouldn't have the tick problem. The board of health nurse ignored my call (so far), so I'm trying to figure out what to do next.
I went and dropped an obscene amount of money for dog food for my dumb dog with a sensitive stomach and possible food and environmental allergies, came home, got the boy off the bus, then took the kids to get haircuts. The hairdresser cut my son's hair a bit too short. I was kinda afraid of what she did, but she tried to fix it, so it's not as bad as it was. Fortunately, his hair grows really fast and thick, so we should be all set in about a month.
I had to cook supper, which always sucks, no matter what, and then I had to deal with the lack of RSVP's for my friend's baby shower. Why the hell do people not respond to RSVP's anymore? I have to order food, for God's sake. So I sent out a blanket email, saying are you coming or not, bitches (yes, I left that last word out)?? Four people responded right away, and I'm like, hello, can you not read? Today was the date you were supposed to let me know. Ugh. And the two other people, who are supposed to be my friend's other closest friends, HAVE NOT RESPONDED. What the fucking hell? They have kids, but so do I, and I always manage to call or email people when asked. This same thing happened for my son's birthday. I hate parties. I don't know why I give them.
And that was my Monday.
