Army Joins Struggle to Save Beer
Tue Jan 20, 8:59 AM ET
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia has sent in the army to bolster a week-long struggle to rescue 10 tons of beer trapped under Siberian ice, Itar-Tass news agency said Tuesday. A lorry carrying the beer sank when trying to cross the frozen Irtysh river, and a rescue team of six divers, 10 workers and a modified T-72 tank from the emergencies ministry have so far failed to save the load.
"The situation hasn't developed according to our ideal scenario," the deputy head of the Cherlaksky region, told the agency. Temperatures were around minus 27 degrees Celsius (minus 17 degrees Fahrenheit) in the region, near the Siberian city of Omsk and around 1,400 miles from Moscow.
A week-long effort to cut a 100 yard corridor to the river bank to pull the truck to dry land failed when the vehicle was swept away from the rescue site, Tass said.
But it said the soldiers were confident it would take them just a day to retrieve the beer.
a TANK my friends... a TANK. for beer. ahhh... russians.
now my jlc has switched to... rains in asia! weehaaa. how i love to understand the words finally. perhaps i'll get my jlc comp cd up soon... many thanks to moryssa for getting me the mp3 of dancing virginia from the record! YAY! i am unbelievably happy about that.
so i rode tailor yesterday. now, for those of you (actually, to the invisible ppl, everyone who reads this will know this) who don't know, i haven't ridden him for a month. casue i was on break. a nd before that i was sick and only sat on him twice. twice in 6 weeks. so 1) he is out of shape 2) he is hyper 3) i am riding him in a tiny ring with 4 other horses. he chases horses.
it was interesting.
it was also under 20. more like 18. ;) i figured all my layers would protect me as i flew off...
but luckily! he is also 25! !!!!! and thus he goes around with his head straight up and pops up and down, but really doesn't do anything. :-D of course he was dyinnnngggg to buck when we cantered and was just going up and down... and not forward.. and all that work we did last semester is gone.. but that's ok.
what we needed was a big empty ring to run around in a bit lol.
it was also intriguing to jump everything twice as big as usual.
he's been much better about that.
and after one flub i stopped taking my leg off and pushed for the forward distance... yayyy... jenny woudl be so proud.
so in conclusion.
i did not fall off
tailor did not fall down
he did not even really buck
i was surprised
we need to work on bending
i do not want to go to class
i maintain hope that we we actually get carbon leaf down here...
