the checkbooks are coming!
ahem - alumni. but real alumni, not "you're still here getting another degree but we'll hit you up for money anyway" alumni.
the department is having this asinine centennial celebration which is a VERY thinly veiled attempt to get money out of the alumni. after all, the capital budget got cut halfway through the construction of our building and the department had to pick up the $2M tab. they even put artwork up in our crappy old building! of course, it's not specially commissioned like the art in the new building. but hell, I'm just glad to have lights in the hallway. we didn't have any for 6 months.
anyway, as part of this they want to do lab tours. so finally our lab, in the remote former attic of the old psych building, is getting a fresh coat of paint and new carpet for the first time since Jim came here in 1993. but it won't be done until 4 days before said lab tours.
at any rate, we decided that we will "impress" the visitors with the most offensive stimuli we can possibly get - three dimensional bumps (aka boobs), illuminated nude torsos, Dali paintings...anything offensive that we actually used in an experiment or in a research talk. hehe.
I am also going to hang a gigantic rainbow flag on my door the afternoon of the tours. attention to detail. ah yes.
