Day 24 - Favorite Deathly Hallow

Favorite how? Favorite as it pertains to the story line or favorite as in, "That's the one I'd like to have?"

As pertaining to the story I really like the Invisibility Cloak because it's there from the beginning and we, the readers, just assume it's a normal magical item that anyone can possess in the wizarding world. Oh, but how wrong we are!!! I thought it was a cool twist.

Another reason I like the cloak is because it symbolizes the true goodness of Dumbledore. Part of the message of HP is that everyone has a choice for how they live their lives. Some choose power and selfishness while others choose to live for the greater good. Dumbledore could have gone either way; he had it in him to become what Voldemort aspired to be, but in the end he chose not to. He was in possession of two hallows: the wand and the cloak. He was also in possession of all those memories that we see with Harry in Half Blood Prince. He knew before he ever gave up the cloak to Harry where the Resurrection Stone was and what it was. He knew he would have to go and find it, thus uniting all 3 hallows and being the master of death, but he CHOOSES not to do that. He chooses the greater good, giving Harry his rightful cloak and helping him along the way of defeating Voldemort. For a while I was very disappointed with Dumbledore after reading Deathly Hallows, but then after thinking about it I came to the conclusion that it was that whole parent/child syndrome, where we grow up thinking our parents are superheroes and then we get older and realize they're human and make mistakes. I was so mad that Dumbledore ended up basically raising Harry for the slaughter, to be sacrificed at the altar, but the cloak really redeems him and shows just how well he understood the entire situation and knew that Harry and goodness would, in fact, persevere over evil.

As for the one I'd like to have, that wold be the Elder Wand because it's the most awesome wand in the history of all wands and it can do such powerful magic. If I were a wizard this is the hallow I'd like to have. And I know, I know, there's the curse and all, but that's only if you're boastful of having the Elder Wand. If I keep it quiet and use it cautiously it should be OK, right?
