Attention all fanfiction authors!

Okay, I know I've been next to dead lately. Same old story, same old excuses. Mea culpa, mea culpa.

I come bearing news for all you fanfiction authors who have dreamed of publication! One of my bestest best friends, dancewithtrains, has a project going on for her Literary Editing and Publishing class - and she wants to publish a magazine made up of fanfiction!

Many of you know about this already since I've been announcing it during club meetings, but this quarter I'm taking a Literary Editing and Publishing class, and for my final project, I have to actually publish a REAL literary magazine. :D I'm planning for this to actually turn into something ongoing, an official monthly publication (maybe bi-monthly if I can't get enough submissions in a month, but something tells me I'll probably have plenty to choose from if I play my cards right).

This is where YOU come in. :D

I need stories! I will take anything, so long as it is fanfiction, or related to fanfiction. I'll accept poetry, non-fiction (maybe a memoir style story about an experience you had writing or reading fanfiction, for example), and I may even start a small section in this publication for well thought-out reviews of stories. Keep in mind that this is a LITERARY publication, so submissions should fall into the category of "literature" (which has many definitions for many people, but generally can be classified as a piece of writing that is artfully crafted in language and structure and holds some kind of meaning to someone and/or everyone). Basically if it's well written, I will take it!

Some stipulations: Since this is a real publication, once you submit your work to me, if I publish it, it cannot be published/posted anywhere else. If it's already posted somewhere (on fanfiction.net, for example) then once I publish it I will ask you to take it down from wherever else it is posted. Hopefully that's not a problem for most people.

Also, due to the nature of this magazine (and fanfiction in general) sexual content will not be prohibited, but I would ask that if you're going to submit things that contain sexual content that they be tasteful, and that they still fall into the category of Literature. I don't want to limit people, but I also don't want to have a magazine that's about sex and nothing else. :P

Lastly, again because this is a publication for fanfiction, nobody will be making any money off of this. I won't be charging to subscribe, and I obviously can't pay people who submit work and have it published. It's not that I don't think the writing is worth it, but including any kind of payment gets too far into legalities, and I have neither the time nor the money to get sued here. ;)

So, TL;DR:

I need submissions of well written fanfiction for a literary magazine, some stipulations apply.

The deadline for this is November 4th. You may write something new, or you can submit something you've had lying around for a while. As the editor, I reserve the right to reject submissions (kindly, of course, and I will always offer an explanation), as well as to take submissions and work with you on changing them so they flow better, or so they fit the criteria better. If you have questions feel free to ask!

Also, please spread the word to anyone you think may be interested (also to people that facebook fails at tagging)! Thanks!

Long story short: submissions are due November 4th. She prefers completed pieces or at least a completed draft that can stand on its own. If your story comes in chapters, she will accept the complete story, but will only publish one chapter at a time. Smut is NOT prohibited (thank goodness!), but what she's really looking for is literary merit, so stick some plot in with your porn.

For more information, please contact me. Despite that nifty looking LJ, that is not a good way to contact her. I will pass along any and all questions, and I can pass along her email for those interested in submitting.

Edit: to include a couple more details ... the page limit is 20 pages, double-spaced (or, you know, the standard spacing for LJ, which a space between each paragraph). The 20-page limit does not apply to chaptered stories ... as in, your story can be more than 20 pages. But the chapters shouldn't be longer than that.

Edit 2 - answers to avocado_love's questions:

>What would be the preferred word-count they're looking for?

I edited my post to include this. It's something I forgot to add, oops. She's putting a 20-page cap on it. That's 20 pages, double-spaced (or that standard spacing that you use on LJ and ff.net, with the space between paragraphs). For chaptered stories, the story can be longer, but the chapters shouldn't be more than 20 pages.

>Where would I send it, and in what kind of document?

Her email is omnistrife_beta @ yahoo . com , without the spaces. She goes by Omni online. .doc format is preferred, as she's editing them all in Word.

>Do they want my RL name or my online handle?

Either or both, whatever you're comfortable with. She's still checking on whether she needs to use real names for her submission to the class, but for the final publication she thinks it's fine to use pseudonyms/online handles.

>Will the magazine be available for online viewing as well?

The magazine will be online-only. :D So, yes.

>Could I archive the fic in my LJ under a friend's lock?

She's still looking into this as well. Because this is a free journal, she's not even sure if she needs the rule of "don't publish this anywhere else." So she or I will get back to you on that.
