What better way to get my ass into gear and start using LJ regularly again than procrastinating from school work? \o/
Let's start there, I probably haven't talked anything about that. Last fall, I took a leave of absence from my job and started a three-year program with history as a main direction. This means that we've read history the first two terms, and will go on to read sociology/social science, basic law, leadership and organisation, a couple of terms with whatever we want, including studying abroad. Basically, it's awesome, have been savoring studying rather than working, a lot more stimulating.
Going back to work for the summer in a couple of weeks, though, and am already dreading having to get up early in the morning again. XD Hopefully it'll reset me to the attitude I had in the beginning of last term: for the first couple of months, I woke up in the morning and looked forward to getting to work. It was awesome, and I wouldn't mind feeling like that again.
We're currently reading books and doing academic reviews, will finish off this entry with a plug for the last one I read.
A Midwiife's Tale: The Life of Martha Ballard, Based on Her Diary 1785-1812 A very interesting and touching read, not just if you're into history. It's also rare because it's a female perspective from a time where very little from the female point of view was documented because a) the men didn't think it was important and b) the number of women who could write was limited, and even if they could write, they didn't necessarily prioritize preserving things in writing.
