Star Trek recs

May 29, 2009 00:25

Wow, this took a lot longer than I expected. The Star Trek Reboot fandom has produced a LOT of good stuff in 22 days. *applauds*

Recs! Gen, slash and ship fic. Mostly gen, though, because while I'm a slasher to the bone, the gen fic in this fandom owns me.

Gen fic

Ten Thousand Half-opened Doors by _seven_crows
"Careful," warns Kirk. "That might be a little emotion on your face, just there."
Post-movie, Kirk's bruises catching up.

How to Avoid Kicking Puppies and Other Valuable Lessons in Leadership by sparky77
“If people just went around punching superior officers because they were assholes, there would be anarchy, and I’d be very bruised.”
So funny! Kirk facing a dilemma concerning Chekov, and handling it in his own way.

Second Star To the Right and Straight On 'Til Morning by lunabee34
He does not believe he is a god to tamper with the lives of those around him, but he cannot resist this one indulgence, this one manipulation.
A short little Spock Prime piece.

Precious Things by haearnmouse
Humans, it turned out, were not as simple as he had originally thought they were.
The destruction of Vulcan from a different POV.

Untitled by _seven_crows
Spock considers this, and for a moment Kirk thinks he's going to say something quintessentially Vulcan, like 'I find it highly unlikely,' or 'it is statistically improbable.'
Spock and Kirk bonding, sorta.

How To Win Friends And Influence Vulcans by green
If Kirk didn't know better, he would have sworn the other man was feeling a human emotion called ~suspicion~, but Kirk might have been projecting.
Spock and Kirk are embracing the bromance. Well. Jim is, anyway.

Proving Today by eldee_fic
He knew his age was a hinder to him, at times, but it was one he could easily overcome with his brain.
Chekov fic. Not crazy about phonetic spelling, but it's only really in one place.

Murphy's Law Of Jim Kirk Diplomacy by _seven_crows
" - 'James Tiberius Kirk, murdered by knife-throwing Lysurean ninjas on a routine diplomatic mission.' How does that sound, Jim?"
I've recced this before, but I shall rec it again, because I love it so damn much. Bones, Spock and Kirk bonding through hurt/comfort and isolation. ♥

A Formal Dance In The Bowling Alley by loneraven
Spock says nothing, cracks an expression that may involve the corners of his mouth turning upwards, and sips his soup.
Ensemble fic. Warm, funny and heartwarming.

Iowa by misfit_fandoms
They bring his Corvette back on a Tuesday morning, when the sun is high in the sky and he's tilling the land because there's nothing else to do.
Short fic from the POV of Jim's stepdad, post-Corvette incident. Everything the writer says in her notes? Yes, my feelings exactly.

Killing Time by irisbleufic
He wondered what the game's creators had been smoking when they thought that hiding mushrooms in brick boxes emblazoned with question-marks would be just ace.
Scotty and Keenser playing Nintendo. AWESOME.

Building On Shaky Foundations by malleablyfic
Some accountant - some economist or actuary, whatever - has put a price on your legs and is now paying you a compensation.
Pike fic. Because you're worth it. Now with bonus Number One!

Faites Vos Jeux // Rien Ne Va Plus by chaletian
Although practically every one on Enterprise is endlessly fascinated with Spock (chiefly, in Sulu’s opinion, because of the unusually high possibility that he will go postal on them, compared to most Vulcans), it is a group of crewmen in Maintenance who bet the most and, increasingly, as the voyage goes on, win the most.
Ensemble. AWESOMENESS. Part of a series of stories, but can be read on its own. Chekov and Sulu is running the Enterprise betting pool.

This Story Is Not Humorous by chaletian
But life on a starship seems a more concentrated form of Human life, and there is often behaviour he finds… puzzling.
Sequel to Faites Vos Jeux // Rien Ne Va Plus. Spock and humor, an unbeatable combination.

The Surly Bonds Of Earth by denorios
It takes a long time for a starship to be built.
Another Pike fic. Because he loved her first.

Slash fic

Bedside Manner by damalur
(Spock/McCoy,R)
The discussion had only escalated after that; for a supposedly logical being, Spock had a remarkable ability to wander from the point, and they'd hashed out Spock's parentage, Bones's education, the effects of cordrazine on silicon-based lifeforms, the senselessness of a variety of phobias, and the wisdom of the Captain's continuing resolution to place himself in the way of every Gorn, Klingon, and con man in this quadrant of the galaxy, all between the science labs and the turbolift.
Spock and McCoy easing the tension between themselves.

Our Emotional History is in the Kitchen by raphaela667
But of course she said she’d be waiting - he was her boy, and he still had his place here, even if they both knew he’d never take it.
From Winona's POV. Jim comes home, and he brings Spock with him.

Second Impressions by jain
(Kirk/Uhura, Spock/McCoy, Spock/Uhura)
Four perspectives on three relationships.
See those pairings? I never thought I'd enjoy a fic with all that, but it works SO WELL. ♥

Through Water by sans_pertinence
(Kirk/Spock, NC-17)
You don’t mess with what works and we work, if not like the old guy wanted us to. I don’t think he got that me and Spock, we aren’t him and-him.
Kirk is having side effects from the mindmeld and asks Spock to help him out. It's SO GOOD, with stuff for both new fans and old, but the ending is so open. *crosses fingers for sequel*

Yellow by entangled_now (libraryofsol)
(Kirk/Spock, NC-17)
Spock will have something to say about his being compromised by foliage, something involving long words, and maybe percentages, and that special sort of sneering that isn't actually sneering but's as good as. And eyebrows that judge him. Oh the eyebrows are good at judging him.
SEX POLLEN FIC! 'Nuff said.

Untitled by anonymous
(Kirk/Spock, G)
Vulcans do not have many indulgences, but this is his.
This just makes me smile. Spock watches Jim.

Numerical by anonymous
(Kirk/Spock, NC-17)
(damn empaths, they make such lousy lays, especially when they decide to start healing you)
Five times Kirk had sex with aliens, and then Spock.

Five Times Leonard McCoy Agreed With That Green-Blooded SOB by damalur
(Spock/McCoy, PG-13)
"...Did the two of you just agree?" Jim says. "You didn't. You did! This is going in my captain's log."
The title speaks for itself. \o/

The Ups And Downs Of You by raphaela667
(Kirk/Spock, PG-13)
There were rules about Vulcan biology and scaring the hell out of Jim now. This had to be in violation of at least three of them.
I MAKE NO APOLOGIES FOR LOVING THIS! It isn't as sickly sweet as the premise would have it, anyway. Spock is turned into a kid again.

A Point Of Vulnerability by green
(Kirk/McCoy, NC-17)
Later, Kirk would log a report that he had been rescued by Spock and McCoy, that he had been beamed back aboard the Enterprise, and that he had been treated in sickbay. The report would not mention what he had been doing when his crewmates found him, or what he had done after.
Wherein Jim is drugged and Bones is noble. Mostly. Okay, 95% of the time.

Ship fic

Second Impressions by jain
(Kirk/Uhura, Spock/McCoy, Spock/Uhura)
Four perspectives on three relationships.
See those pairings? I never thought I'd enjoy a fic with all that, but it works SO WELL. ♥

I Think You Waste Your Sweetness by la_belle_dame
(McCoy/Chapel, NC-17)
Doctor Leonard McCoy is neither collected nor serene. He is brilliant and tidy, but about as far away from calm as you can get.
Holy chocolate hotness, Batman. Um, yes. It's hot, okay. Go read. (The Kirk STD thing makes me roll my eyes, but I don't care, because DID I MENTION THE HOT?)

What One Cannot Have by anonymous
(Spock/Uhura, R)
For a moment though, she thinks his eyes linger on her as she goes back to the text.
Pre-movie. Uhura is frustrated, because she likes Spock but doesn't know he's half human, and everyone knows that Vulcans don't do romance.
