My 2006

Jan 01, 2007 15:58

If you've ever wondered if there's any way of making a post like this too long...yes, yes there is.

But while it's extremely detailed, it's mostly for my own sake. I'm terrible of thinking of things in terms of when they happened, so it's so helpful to make a post with all these links and details of what really happened last year, because it's too easy for me to forget.

So much happened this year, with all the different trainees, both in Sweden and out of the country, and with me moving away from home.

My 2006

January

The beginning of January, I came back from NoChatLand, quite grumpy if I recall correctly. It wasn't one of my best xmasses, and I got to spend New Years there as well even though I'd had other plans.

I discovered Commander in Chief and the glee that entails. I wrote a DVD commentary for Six Degrees of Transformation because svendra wanted me to. I also posted my first SGA fic for the year, Sucking It Up, which, wow, got a lot of comments. Must be because of how deep a fic it was. ;)

I decided that I was going to move to my own place and Michael blew my mind in an obsessive, let's-make- icons-and-screencaps-and-vids kind of way.

February

In February, I'd officially moved and was more or less patiently waiting for my modem to arrive. Suz called me from Hawaii (cool!).

Valentine's Day came along and I posted my annual love.

I got a new trainee at a place that I loved, but where I sadly couldn't get employed.

March

I started my exciting life of crime by lying to the TV tax people.

I posted my Michael vid Special, made relatively quickly due to obsessive love for the ep and revealed that yes, for me, everything really is about fandom.

April

April started off with me going off to the UK for a three week trainee at a hotel in Bognor Regis. Thinking back, I'm almost a little shocked that it was three weeks, coz the time went by so fast. On the other hand, our work started fairly late (four days after we arrived) and we left a little earlier to spend a few nights at Suz's place.

May

May had my birthday, which was unremarkable enough to skip posting about, and I wrote another fic, It Starts With An Earthquake, which pretty much sums up my mood in May. But oh! I watched X3, which certainly deserves a mention, as it blew my mind.

June

In June, I started a trainee at one of the busiest shops in town, which was a big change in pace for me (running! running! running all the time! my feet still hurt when I think about it). I also immortalized my vidding woes in pictures.

I got a phonecall for a job the next day, which lead to a nerve wracking, long, exhausting day that ultimately worked out.

I made a new vid, my first Due South one, Look Up, which was shortly followed by my webhost telling me to scrap my vids.

July

In July, the fannishness started up again (hee) with new episodes of SGA and SG and fannish glee.

August

August started off with a visit to NoChatLand and I took in a kitten for a day. A very adorbable kitten.

After he left, I comforted myself with a little Advent Children, watching it, capping it and making icons.

It was announced that SG1 was being cancelled (sob).

I finished my xmas gift for D, a multifandom vid, Fascinating New Thing. I also wrote a Common Ground tag, Terra Firma.

September

Suz wrote me an awesome SGA/Swedish geekout fic.

I made a SGA birthday vid for bervera, Alone Now.

I tried getting to know my flist a little better (I think I need to make another one of those posts soon).

Didn't write a SG birthday fic for svendra, nuh uh. It wasn't called Formal Attire Not Required.

October

In October, I wrote my first het porno, which turned out pretty cozy for a porno, Unexpected. It got a great response from everyone, which is awesome (see above: first het porno) and it was fun writing something different.

I also wrote a request ficlet, Subtle, the first but not the last (I'm still working on it, guys! I haven't forgotten! Hmm, I should write a progress report).

I had the first day of what would turn into The Work Drama Of The Year.

November

This month, I sorta put all my bad luck into a couple of days. I twisted my knee while in NoChatLand and limped around for a month.

December

I made another SGA Advent Calendar, which was a lot of fun. Of course, I managed to be away from home the first days, but fortunately I had a lovely Suz to save the day.

I decided that I was going out of the country on a trainee for four months in 2007, something I'm still hyperventilating about.

I found out that my sister is pregnant. :D

I made a SGA Xmas Vid, It Came Upon The Midnight Clear.

I got a trainee at a local shoemaker, a trainee that's proving to be surprisingly enjoyable.

I spent a lovely xmas eve at mom's and dad's and a lovely new year's eve at home with my bud visiting.

All in all, I spent a lot of 2006 depressed, which you can tell by how few posts there were at times. When I'm feeling down, I try to stay away from LJ, because while I do think that you should feel that you can write anything in your own LJ, I don't want to drag people down or fish for sympathy. Well, not that much of the latter, anyway. ;)

It was an incredibly eventful year, though, with a lot of new experiences, so hopefully I can take all that with me to 2007 and make that year awesome.

Now to the fic.

The fic, 2006

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?: A lot less. I've never been prolific, but this year I've really felt how much I miss school/work. I'm always the most productive when I have other things to do.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2006?: Daniel/Vala and Rodney/Teyla. I mean, sure, I've loved Daniel/Vala for a long time, but it's always weird writing a pairing you've never written before and it takes me a long time to get into it enough to write fic. I mean, my first Sheppard/McKay story was basically written by accident.

What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?: Wow, that's hard. While I haven't written a lot, I'm really happy with the stuff I've made. Sucking It Up literally makes me happy, as does Formal Attire Not Required, but I love Unexpected because that's what it was, unexpected yet so much fun, and Terra Firma let me indulge my whumping kink, and It Starts With An Earthquake just worked the way I wanted it to. So, a lot of them make me very happy.

Did you take any writing risks this year?: No, not really. I just wrote whatever I felt like.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?: I'd love to finish this huge SGA AU I have on my hard drive, but my real goal is to write stuff even though I won't have my normal computer access the first five months of the year.

My Favorite Story: It Starts With An Earthquake, because it actually makes my stomach twist a little, and no other things that I've written myself does that.

My Best Story: Terra Firma, because I tried a writing style to sort of make a point in the plot, and it seems to have worked.

Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe: I feel very fortunate, I feel that the universe appreciates my fic more than it deserves. :D Maybe Formal Attire, because it's a new pairing for me, which means that not a lot of people read it, compared to my other fic.

Most fun: Sucking It Up.

Most disappointing: Subtle. It's...I don't dislike it, but it feels like a lightweight, even if it's not meant to be a deep fic.

Most sexy: Unexpected.

Story With a Single Sexy Moment: Hmm, I don't know. Sexy, to me, is a shade too subtle to be my style. If someone said that something I wrote is sexy, I'd be so tickled, but I don't really see my own stuff that way.

Hardest to Write: It Starts With An Earthquake, because of the whole "not being subtle" thing, plus I really wanted it to feel tense and creepy, something I'm not sure I can pull off.

Most Unintentionally Telling: Hmmm. Probably Unexpected.
