This is from around this time of year, 2005:

Recent forays into thefacebook.com which involved a high school search has made me feel old. I found 2 people from the class of 1995, just me from 1997, and the next class to have people there are from 2000, which is my younger sister's class. Was it originally called The Facebook, or is that just some weird extra "the" in there?

Back in my day, when Facebook was highly selective, it was actually The Facebook. I assume this was partly because people at the schools they were targeting were originally using it partly to replace "the facebook", being the thing you buy at the bookstore with pictures of your classmates.

(Edit: Or I could actually read the thing that I linked, and notice that someone else had Facebook.com at the time.)

I love the old lady extraneous "the". I've noticed my mom starting to do it and I realize it's just something that's going to happen to me as I get older.

Heh, I like to prepend "The" in front of things (including Facebook, when I joined it!) in a "hipster ironic" sort of way but I had never heard an actual old person do it. I'm glad to know it's not just a made-up phenomenon!
