where are the crazy liberals?

On a note related to the last post, I was trying to think of crazy or irresponsible leftists who are still mainstream enough to have a wide audience. These are people respectable liberals should more or less ignore. Don't buy their books, listen to their shows, or link to their writing. I'd listen to Al Franken if he promises to talk about policy. He is wonkish enough that he would not necessarily distract from a discussion with BS.

What about Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson? Are they mainstream enough?

When I first read this, I was ready to say anyone on KPFA should be taken with a grain of salt, but I don't know if that is too fringe.

I think they're all too fringe. But these are fuzzy lines. I admit I had to google KPFA.

Occasionally the people at www.americablog.com are over the top hysterical.

I did not like their whole treatment of the Saddleback Church guy debacle.

Some numbers comparing the "mainstream-ness" of a couple radio programs (from Wikipedia):

"As of October 2008, Air America programming was carried on 66 terrestrial broadcast stations" (with 32 being majority Air America programming).

"The Rush Limbaugh Show airs on a network of approximately 590 AM and FM affiliate stations throughout the United States."

Draw your own conclusions.
