Starting with this past weekend...
Saturday - a wedding. My cousin, whom I wish I knew better, is getting married to a girl four years his junior. She seems nice, but at table 35 (I wish he knew me better, too) it was just easier to socialize with my other cousins at the table than to mingle with people I don't know, bride or otherwise, and try to be heard over the background noise, which I would say averaged out to a dull roar over the course of the reception. The wedding was in an an evangelical church, which means my cousin has gotten mixed up with some scary people. Of the wedding party that spoke, only the groom's brother didn't credit the entire affair to God and/or Jesus.
Despite
polymorphism's, our cousins' and my non-involvement in the wedding, it was a very family-intensive deal; the best man and maid of honor were the couples' respective siblings and the immediate families of both were featured prominently. If I enjoyed weddings, I'd say it was a very nice one. The reception was all right, too, if a bit crowded. Dinner wasn't worthy of the attentions of a food critic, but the fillet mignon was tender and nicely complemented by the pork medallions with cranberry stuffing's subtle sweetness; certainly much better than I'm used to. Dessert was a slice of the wedding cake and bowls of snack food next to a chocolate fountain, which is always kind of cool, but the only cold stuff was the bananas; room-temperature snacks really aren't the best things to exploit Magic Shell. However, thrift store shoes and incurable misanthropy prevented me getting the most from the experience.
Sunday - the only slow day.
polymorphism and I spent the day watching season 5 of Angel, with lunch at Applebee's and dinner a skillet meal from Meijer. We also went shopping for the pieces of my Hallowe'en costume, which I finally decided would be Mega Man. I'm going to need to dye some clothes -- long johns, ideally -- but we found the beginnings of what I'll need. A shopping trip to Hobby Lobby is in my immediate future.
Monday - today. With school eating my night and preparations for everything looming, I called in to work -- a quick and dirty telemarketing job. I don't love it, but I don't have to think about after the day's over, so I don't care. I took the trip to Hobby Lobby and bought the dye, five blocks of styrofoam, adhesive spray and cutting tools. I spent this afternoon alternating between homework and shaving and glueing some styrofoam into the shape of the Mega Buster -- if I can, I'll get some pictures when it's done.
Since I don't want much of what's involved in the apartment, I'm doing it outside next to the door so I can have a tv on. While I was working, one of my neighbors came home and admired Savage, who sat by the screen door, watching me work. I held him up to demonstrate the hugeness of my cat. She asked.
Tuesday - Blitz. A major job I submitted my resume for early in the year may be coming around; the Hiring Blitz begins at 8 AM in downtown Chicago. Since I'm uncertain whether I can disclose the nature of the job online, I'll only say that I'd have to move to Virginia and travel out of the country a great deal if I get it. After the Hiring Blitz (their words, not mine), I'm coming back to Elgin, then going back to school. It requires that I backtrack -- quite a bit, actually -- but I'm comfortable with this. I'd like to spend my available time building my costume.
Wednesday - playing catch-up. I'm working until 3:30, then it's straight back to the school. I'll be working on the homework I've missed, and spending the entire evening at the school. If I get done early, it's back to work on my blaster.
Thursday - work until 9 PM. I have the option of leaving at 3:30 again -- that's true every day -- but I'm going to need some money this month. Hell; I might leave anyway and promise extra work to Dad next week. The Mega Buster won't make itself, you know.
Friday - The Mega Buster better be done (or near to it). The Hallowe'en party is Friday night in Alton, Illinois. I'll be meeting
polymorphism in Bolingbrook in the afternoon, we'll watch an episode of Angel, time permitting, and take off for Alton.
schpoopy has been nice enough to put us up for the night, and I'm committed to be back to work on Sunday.
I'm sure it speaks volumes about my character that my mind tells me the costume is more important than the homework.
