Robot Ki-chan doodles

This is just scribbles of concept art and old art, nothing too exciting.  Just trying to figure out where I want to go with this.  Opinions are lovely!

Okay, so these are all the drawings I've done of the version of my fusona as a robot.  As you can see there has been little if any continuity between them, I've just sort of worked with whatever every time I've drawn her.  I thought I was sold on NOT making her a robot and just leaving it as a metaphor but now I'm back to floundering with it again.  I just really like the idea, and in truth, she shouldn't look like a robot when she's not opened up, so I wouldn't be changing her appearance for basic things.  Just conceptual things and such.  People who want to get crazy.  Not that people ever get crazy with a character like this lol.

Okay, so here are the things I now KNOW about Robo-Ki.  Or K1 as I guess she wants to be called.
  • She's not Ki-chan.  Or if she is, she's a very distant version of her in the future.
  • The core is the center of everything.  It's always the focal point when I draw her, it's clear that's because it's the most important part.  I don't know if it's just her heart or if it's also her brain.
  • She's self-aware.  She knows what she is and what her limitations are.  And she's always trying to perfect herself as a result.
I'm not sure she has to "be" something, like "this always means this" or "this character is only to be used in these situations."  Lately with my issues with connectivity and technology I've literally felt overloaded by it, I think that's what's tipping me over the edge.  I'm a part of the technological horizon, just as much as my phone or my laptop or my xbox or whatever.  I'm the user.  I'm the reason it exists.  This is just a step further perhaps.

On to messy concept scribbles lol.

Sooo I was fighting between robot skeleton with husk-like chassis or doll-like anamatronics with tight inner workings.  Somehow I kind of ended up with a hybrid.  She has a very doll-like exterior, with articulated joints and a "lifelike" face.  It's probably made up of some sort of "soft" synthetic material as well.  Then you pop off a couple of the plates on her chest and get to the inside... and it's surprisingly empty.  Most of the space is either taken up with wires, or the carbon-fiber "muscles" that give her the shape she has and protects the core, which basically runs the show.

Then on the outside of the chassis the manufacturers would attach some sort of synthetic fiber fur, probably some sort of rayon and carbon fibers or something.  Something that would look shiny, feel soft, but would be durable and take a little wear and tear.  The parts would still be detachable with the fur on, but you'd have to split it at a seam.

Anyone have any input on this?  I love robots but right now I'm still on the fence of "should I/shouldn't I?"  Normally I don't get preoccupied with things like "my fursona will look like someone else's fursona" because let's face it... that happens with a tuxedo cat!  But I'm worried about being too similar to Kace and Sine.  Kace especially since she's everywhere in the fandom.

robots for everyone, thinking out loud, moart, interweb, random, art
