You're gonna carry that weight

So I finally bought the Cowboy Bebop boxed set after years of loving the show from a distance.  It's not a secret I love the show.  It's not a secret that there is very little to dislike the show (because with the exception of "Boogie Woogie Fung Shuei", IS there a bad episode?  I don't think so).  I can watch this show so many times, and yet it STAYS good.  And giving that it's now 12 years old, that's saying a lot.

What is it about this show that has so much staying power?

And why does it always make me cry?

There are so many small parts about this show that make it become so much better.  I mean, if you think about it, the story being told is really basic.  A couple of down on their luck bounty hunters trying to make ends meat.  And Spike's backstory is an elaborate Romeo and Juliet story.  But it's the awesome characters, music, and the way that the series has been put together that makes it so good.

As a writer, Cowboy Bebop intimidates me.  It would be my greatest hope to someday be able to tell a story that is just a fraction of this show.  And this isn't "ANIME IS TEH GREATEST ART FORM EVAR" idolization.  I've mostly grown out of anime.  I still enjoy some with great stories, but I acknowledge the medium has it's faults, the biggest being it's inaccessible to people outside of it's fan-base.

Bebop doesn't have those problems.  Bebop is accessible.  Bebop is powerful.  Bebop is cool.

If I was ever able to tell a story that was able to effect people the way that Bebop effects me...  It would be the greatest accomplishment of my life :)

cotg, fangirling, it made my day, random
