A change for the better
So it wasn't that a part of me was dying off. The real truth is a part of me was suffocating, and I felt like it might be easier to let it die then it would be to save it. I've got 9+ years of history and character writing under my belt, and while not all of it has been good, every single piece of it has contributed to the characters I have.
Which is why after 9 years, I am changing Daewen's name. I am going to leave behind all the preconceptions I had about her character, her past, the name, the history, my internet identity, and all the other painful associations that have been wrapped up in that name. She's still going to look the same, and she's probably still going to act the same... but she isn't the same anymore. A new name, and a new chance to start over.
So happy birthday Gabrielle. Let's hope I don't fuck you up too.
