I like to make costumes. I like to dress up in them and have fun pretending to be somebody else, if only for a little while. If you like to do this too, you're a cosplayer!
I have great love for my fellow cosplayers, but there are things that make me want to smack some of them.
You need to put LOVE into your costume.
*Don't haphazardly slap together some fabric with a safety pin and say "Ooh, I'm dressed up!" This includes: cat ears and nothing else, Naruto headbands and nothing else, random lolita hairpieces with a t shirt and jeans, and any other accessory (including the Chii ears).
*When you DO make your costume, FINISH IT before you wear it. This pisses me off so bad. I look at people with something that's half done and wonder if they know they look dumb. If it's not ready, don't wear it.
*Threads. Cut them. Nothing looks less clean-cut than the Sailor Saturn who's got strings hanging all over her because she was too lazy to cut them.
*Thread and fabric can be matching now please? Blue thread in the seam of your white fabric looks tacky. Unless it's SUPPOSED to do that, don't.
There's a bunch of things with accuracy that can bug me, but as long as you follow those guidelines you're less likely to get glares from me. I don't care about your sewing skill, how you put together your pieces, whether you bought pieces or made them yourself, or any circumstances other than that you do your best and make it as polished as possible. Is it so much to ask? o.O
