As I was finishing my last post, Deric came in and started searching for Jiji. He called and called for him. Now our cat Jiij is a bit of a herp with a good helping of derp mixed in. Plus, he has a penchant for sneaking out onto the lanai. Add to that a popped out screen (see escape artist cat) and it's no wonder we didn't find him. Oh yeah, he's BLACK and it was NIGHT TIME when he snuck through the glass doors.
We searched the whole house top-to-bottom and came up empty. I was still trying to wrap my head around Stormy's being so sick and the financing of his vet trip(s), but when Deric came in and was on the verge of tears I got up and threw on enough clothing to be considered decent at 11:30 PM in my back yard. We shook the cat food bag and called him- I saw movement in our neighbor's garden.
Jiji was trying with all his might to get into the fence, in a blind panic, rushing around through various plants and running headlong into the fence before working himself up into such a state that he ran face-first into the canal. We could only tell this by listening, it was too dark out to see much.
Jiji hauled himself out of the water and we got him into the fence, where he tried to climb inside. He somehow managed to make it 6 feet up the screen before he fell down. Deric grabbed him and we got him in the house. We let him rest for a few minutes, then rinsed him down well in the shower to help remove any chemicals from the water outside. The teacher in me wonders if he's learned anything from this 'natural consequence' or if he will be trying to rogue his way out of the house again today.
It was after 1 AM when we finally got to bed. This morning Stormy is looking MUCH better and fought me over taking his medicine. I am ready to go back to bed at this point. It was a long, stinking day.
I hope my kids do well today and that they are not all thinking that I'm in labor right now...
