Ryosuke stepped out of the large elegant wooden door and the door closed slowly by itself. He turned up his face and his eyes stared at the path that he walked. His face looked serious as always, no smiles no expression.
“Ohaiyo, Ryo-chan,” Yuto greeted his bestfriend as usual that morning. Commonly, Ryosuke would not even look at Yuto but today.
“Ohaiyo,” He replied although still with no tone in his voice.
Yuto stopped and froze a while with a confuse face. Yuto then smiled and continued his walk following Ryosuke which already walked before him.
“Ohaiyo, minna,” Mayuko greeted Yuto and Ryosuke as they met at the corner of the way. Mirai just smiled. She looked at Ryosuke which stared her like something was bothering him.
“What did you do yesterday?” Ryosuke suddenly asked Mirai. Mirai was not surprised with the question.
“It’s a secret, right Mayu-chan?” Mirai looked at Mayuko smiling. Mayuko nodded her head and laughed.
“Hey! No secret among us okay!” Yuto said and suddenly Mayuko ran away. Yuto ran and chased her who was laughing happily. Yuto caught her and tickled her.
“Now, tell me about it.” Yuto said while tickling Mayuko. He laughed when he saw Mayuko trying her best to escape from his tickling.
“Stop it,” Mayuko said while her eyes already teary as she was laughing too hard.
Mirai was laughing watching Yuto and Mayuko act. She turned to Ryosuke who watching that scene too. Ryosuke smiled when Yuto tickled Mayuko.
You always smile when people don’t see you like you’re trying to hide your calming smile. I wonder why. Mirai thought and kept walking when Yuto and Mayuko stopped playing.
Four of them walked in chorus to the school gate. I hope four of us will stay like this forever. Mirai thought and looked at Mayuko, Yuto and Ryosuke.
“Tomorrow night is the birthday party, what will you wear?” Yuto asked Mayuko who was eating her bento. Mirai looked at Mayuko putting her finger at her lips showing that kept it secret.
“Nothing,” Mayuko answered.
“Nothing?” Yuto asked back. How could Mayuko not wearing anything to the party?
“Yuto is a pervert,” Mayuko said when she realized what she said to Yuto.
“I’m not. You’re the one who say that. Not me,” Yuto tried to defend himself and continued eating his bento.
Mirai laughed. Today Yuto and Mayuko kept fighting but it was okay as long as they two still in good condition.
“Mirai,” Ryosuke suddenly called Mirai while Yuto and Mayuko still fighting about who is the pervert.
“En~” Mirai looked at Ryosuke as Ryosuke didn’t say a word after that.
“What Hikaru told you?” Ryosuke asked Mirai. He actually didn’t want Mirai know that he was the one who will become her guardian. He was not ready yet for the position. Protecting is not a job for him. Ryosuke thought that he is only suit for murdering not protecting not even loving although he know that is the root of human feeling.
“Hikaru?” Mirai was lost for a while.
“Ah, nothing important about it,” Mirai answered and smiled.
“I’m sure it is important although it sound not to you,” Ryosuke slurped his drink from his hot chocolate cup.
“I don’t get it,” Mirai said suddenly looked at Ryosuke who was still slurping his hot chocolate. Ryosuke finished his drink and looked at Mirai.
“Don’t get what?” Ryosuke asked and stared at Mirai eyes. Mirai looked down. Suddenly, her heart beat faster and she could not resist the stare from Ryosuke.
“What Hikaru says to me,” Mirai answered in a low voice as she didn’t want Ryosuke realized that her heart was beating in speed.
Ryosuke didn’t answer. Maybe Mirai really didn’t understand what Hikaru told her. Ryosuke looked at Mirai who still nodded her head down.
“Don’t worry,” Rysosuke said and patted Mirai’s head. He stood up and walked to the nearest bin threw the empty cup.
Mirai looked up to Ryosuke. She didn’t believe that Ryosuke said that to her. Usually the words out from Ryosuke mouth were the words which always hurt although sometimes its help.
“Ah! See Ryo-chan had walked away,” Yuto tried to pull Mayuko attention away.
“Eh? What happen?” Mayuko suddenly turned to Mirai.
“Nothing,” Mirai smiled to Mayuko, she was happy that Ryosuke at last treated her nicer than always.
“Are you excited about tomorrow night?” Yuto suddenly asked when both of them on the way home. Mayuko had an extra class and Mirai have some club work to do at school. So, they both went home first.
“More to curious,” Ryosuke answered and suddenly stopped his steps.
“I understand that feeling,” Yuto answered and stopped his step too.
Suddenly, Ryosuke turned back and rushed toward the path to school.
“Wait, why your turn back?” Yuto asked while chasing Ryosuke.
“I feel like protecting,” Ryosuke answered in low voice.
“What?” Yuto didn’t hear it clearly and asked back but this time there was no answer.
