Yesung literally dragged Ryeowook to the two lunch tables that were pushed together in the middle of the cafeteria for lunch.
“Ok introductions!” Yesung shouted.
Ryeowook didn’t get time to even process the names and faces as all what seemed like fifty boys talking over one another all saying a different name.
“Yesung-I swear-Guys! One at a time!” Leeteuk said over the others and they all went quiet. They weren’t kidding when they called Leeteuk Umma; he was even tempted to pull his puppy dog look that he used when he got in trouble with his mother. He didn’t even do anything!
The first to introduce himself was a flaming red head sitting in another boy’s lap, “I’m Heechul and this is Hankyung. He’ll say his name is Hangeng but he doesn’t speak good Korean.”
“Hey! The one called Hankyung said pouting then saying something in Mandarin which Ryeowook picked up as, “I’m not that bad you’re just not a good teacher!”
He giggled quietly and the next person to introduce himself was a well built and wide shouldered boy,”I’m Youngwoon but everyone calls me Kangin! I’m a junior.” Ryeowook nodded.
“Am I in your history class?” He asked Kangin who nodded with a smile.
The next was a slightly bigger boy with curly brown hair, “I’m Donghee but everyone calls me Shindong; a senior. It’s nice to meet you!”
“Likewise,” Ryeowook said nodding.
The next boy to speak up was the pink boy Leeteuk had said was Sungmin, “Hello! I’m Sungmin a junior, and you’re cute!”
Ryeowook blushed and Leeteuk sent a glair to Sungmin, “Th-thank you… It’s nice to meet you Sungmin.”
Ryeowook assumed that the boy sitting beside Sungmin was his boyfriend but the taller boy had introduced himself as Zhou Mi, a senior and was better speaking Korean than Hangeng (Self proclaimed).
The next boy (‘How many has It been?’ Ryeowook thought, ‘and when can I sit down?’) was a very, very good looking boy by the name of Siwon. Ryeowook thought he was a real gentleman.
And the last boy (He hoped) to introduce himself… didn’t introduce himself in Korean, but in Mandarin, as Henry. Ryeowook smiled and answered the slightly chubby cheeked boy in Mandarin and the entire table looked at him shocked, “What?” he asked.
But before anyone could answer yet another boy ran up to the table and started speaking so quickly Ryeowook couldn’t understand him, “Slow down Kyu!” Sungmin said.
The tall pale boy took a deep breath before he spoke, “The fine arts director just told me that there is going to be a fine arts festival in a month and he wants all of the fine arts students to participate! All of them! You know how hard that’s going to be!!”
Sungmin rolled his eyes, “It’ll be a piece of cake! Now introduce yourself to Ryeowook before he thinks you’re crazy.”
Kyuhyun turned to Ryeowook, “Hello I’m Kyuhyun a junior.”
“Hello Kyuhyun.” Ryeowook bowed to him. And Kyuhyun sat down by Sungmin talking to Leeteuk about the festival.
**
It seemed like the entire group was sitting in the dance room after school a few weeks later to watch the dancers of said group practicing their dance routine for the festival that was quickly approaching.
Ryeowook quickly found out that they all had a special talent or two. The singers were Kyuhyun, Yesung, Leeteuk, Zhou Mi and himself (But he never did tell anyone). The dancers were Eunhyuk, Donghae, Shindong, Henry, Sungmin, and Hankyung. Sungmin and Hangeng also did martial arts, which he thought was awesome. The actors were Kibum, Heechul, Siwon, and kangin. He was also surprised to find out that Henry and Kyuhyun were also going to be performing with the symphony. Besides singing and dancing, Leeteuk and Shindong were asked to be the MCs for the performance part of the festival.
They kept bugging him about what he was going to perform and today wasn’t any exception, “Common Wookie! We just want to know if you’ll dance with us!” Donghae said laying down on the hard wood floor breathing hard.
“Hae I’ve already told y’all! I can’t dance! I’m probably worse than Yesung!”
Everyone laughed and Yesung just glared. “I’m not that bad!”
“Yeah,” Eunhyuk started between laughing, “you just look like a wet cooked noodle!”
They all started laughing-even Yesung, “But seriously, Ryeowook what are you going to do for your performance?”
“It’s a secrete!” Ryeowook smirked and looked at his watch, “anyway I have to go mom’s gonna be expectin’ me home soon!” He stood up and grabbed his bag.
“I’ll drive you!” Leeteuk quickly spoke up. The others snickered at him and he glared at them.
“Nah, it’s ok hyung. I can walk.” Ryeowook said walking towards the door.
“No, I insist! Besides I want to try to guess what you are going to be doing for the festival.”
Ryeowook smiled, “Ok then hyung… but I bet you just want to see if my mom’s cookin’ tonight.” He said sticking out his tongue at his hyung.
“Whatever Wookie,” Leeteuk smiled, “you know you’re mother’s cooking is the best!” he said as they walked out of the dance room.
“So… How much longer do you think it’ll talk them to realize they like each other?” Donghae spoke up when the door closed.
“Hopefully not long,” Eunhyuk sighed.
“Let’s make a bet!” Heechul spoke up, “I bet they confess right after Wookie performs during the festival.”
“You know what he’s performing hyung?” Zhou Mi asked.
“Nope! But I bet it’ll be great!” he smirks and the dancers go back to dancing.
**
Leeteuk was nervous. He was always nervous around Ryeowook, but it got worse at the younger’s house. He thought he had kept his feelings for the younger boy well hidden but Wookie’s mom would always give him a knowing look or even giggle if she caught him staring at her son.
Ryeowook thought Leeteuk would drive him home almost every day for his mothers cooking. Yeah right, the elder really likes her cooking… well that’s true too, but Leeteuk just really wanted to hang out with him more.
Leeteuk realized his feelings on the fourth day after Ryeowook arrived at the school. He had heard some students making fun of the ‘new Normal Freak’ and he ended up griping the four students out for at least ten minutes into the lunch hour. He had lectured that not all people need surgery to look pretty and that no matter how much surgery those students received they would never be pretty.
He spent the rest of the hour at the lunch table staring off into space and thinking about what he had said to those poor scared students.
But he was sure Ryeowook never knew how he felt.
**
Ryeowook on the other hand really had no clue. He was too busy being confused with his own feelings for his eldest hyung he didn’t even notice Leeteuk’s feelings.
He was confused because he would be happy around his hyung; like with all of his friends, but when Leeteuk had to leave or was really quiet he would get sad. He would be curious when one of his friends would say something (that was way over his head) to Leeteuk and his hyung would blush the darkest red he had ever seen. Maybe it was a Pretty thing?
But as the days got closer to the festival all he could think about was his hyung. He started getting nervous around Leeteuk and would stutter. He was also having problems picking out a song to sing and play for the festival.
He had finally decided, two weeks before the festival, that he would write his own song and perform it. But the only problem was all he could think about were love songs… and those got him thinking about his hyung… again.
**
“So… how are mom and Jinki?” Leeteuk tried to start a conversation with Ryeowook while they were getting into his car.
Ryeowook looked at him funny, “you just saw them like two days ago. They’re still fine.”
“That’s good. Do you need any help with your homework?” he tried to keep the conversation going.
“Umm… Well I am havin’ problems with biology.” Ryeowook said after thinking for a while.
“Ok! I can help!” Leeteuk said smiling. The car ride was then spent in a comfortable silence.
When they got to Ryeowook’s home they saw that no one was there so they decided to raid the fridge and study at the table. Leeteuk began tutoring Ryeowook for a few hours until Ryeowook’s parents came home.
“No Wookie. That’s meiosis not mitosis. They are two different types of division. Meiosis is for sexual reproduction and mitosis is normal cell division remember?”
Ryeowook groaned in frustration, “I can’t remember any of this!”
“Calm down sweetie,” they heard his mother from the doorway, “It’s just science. Remember to think carefully. Hello Leeteuk dear are you staying for dinner again? It’s Jinki’s turn to cook!”
“Oh I was just about to leave, but sure I’ll call my parents to make sure I can stay!” Leeteuk said getting up and leaving the room to call his parents.
Ryeowook’s mom sat down in Leeteuk’s seat, “you okay dear? You seem distracted. Science is one of your favorites.”
“I know. I just have a lot on my mind. The festival comin’ up has me really distracted. I’m still not sure what I’m gonna sing.” Ryeowook said with a sigh.
“I’m sure you’ll come up with somethin’ dear.” His mom smiled, “If you can’t you can always ask Leeteuk to help you!”
“No mom! I want it to be a surprise!” Ryeowook said blushing.
Leeteuk walked back into the room, “they said I could stay but not all night.” He smiled blushing.
“Good! Then y’all take your study session upstairs so Jinki and I can cook!” His mom said standing up and shooing them out with their books.
They went up stairs into Ryeowook’s room and began to study again. Ryeowook would read a section and ask Leeteuk questions and Leeteuk started on his math homework.
“So you sing?” Leeteuk asked after a moment of silence.
“You heard that? It was supposed to be a surprise.” Ryeowook pouted.
“Oh it still is. I have no clue what you’ll be singing. And from what I heard neither do you. Do you need help picking out a song?” Leeteuk asked.
“No it’s ok,” He quickly said, “I’m probably gonna sing a song I wrote myself.” He began to blush.
“You write your own songs too? That is to cool!” Leeteuk said slightly jumping up and down on the bed.
“Yeah, yeah. Just don’t tell the others. It’s a surprise!”
“I want to hear you sing!” Leeteuk suddenly said.
“No!” Ryeowook said a little too loud and snappy and Leeteuk pouted, “I-I mean… It’s a surprise remember!”
“So!?” Leeteuk said and suddenly began tickling the smaller boy who began laughing. They started a tickle war that lasted about five minutes and a few bent pages of homework.
They had settled down on Ryeowook’s bed when Leeteuk suddenly spoke up, “I bet your singing voice is a beautiful as your laugh.”
Ryeowook blushed a deep red and looked at his hyung, who seemed out of it, “What?”
“Hmm?” Leeteuk hummed and looked at Ryeowook, “Did you say something?”
“N-no. It’s nothing.” Ryeowook said as his mother hollered from down stairs saying dinner was ready.
Well… he felt awkward.
**
It seemed like when the last week before the festival began Ryeowook was avoiding Leeteuk. And Leeteuk did not like it. He kept wondering what he had done to make Ryeowook avoid him. He didn’t remember doing anything other than offer to help him and tickle him. He was getting so confused.
He would try to talk to Ryeowook about it but Ryeowook would always walk away or talk to someone else; like he didn’t hear his hyung. It was getting frustrating.
**
Ryeowook thought he was confused before that afternoon with Leeteuk now he was really confused. He wondered why Leeteuk had said that, If Leeteuk meant it and-more importantly-why he would get even more nervous around Leeteuk and why would his heart speed up?! It had to be unhealthy…
So he did the only thing he knew how to do in a situation like this… run. He avoided Leeteuk as much as he could. He even went as far as sitting far away from his hyung and he ignored Leeteuk whenever he talked.
**
“You like him don’t you,” Henry spoke in Mandarin at lunch three days before the festival began causing the entire table to stop talking to try to understand him, but only two of the others did and they smirked at Ryeowook.
“Wh-What?” was all Ryeowook could stammer before Zhou Mi interrupted him.
“Leeteuk, you like Leeteuk ge!”
“NO!” Ryeowook shouted, “We’re just friends…” He looked down dejectedly.
“So you do!” Hangeng exclaimed, “Don’t deny it! The look on your face tells all!”
“I can’t understand you!” Speak Korean!” Heechul said smacking Hangeng on the back of the head.
“Please don’t tell anyone!” Ryeowook said in mandarin and looking nervous, “I don’t even know if I like him. I just feel awkward around him! Let’s just talk about it later!”
Leeteuk was too busy looking at his food, un-amused that his dongsaengs were having a conversation about him right in front of him. He didn’t see the nervous glance Ryeowook gave him when they finally stopped talking in Mandarin.
Surprisingly the conversation was never picked up again by the three Chinese boys, but they would give Ryeowook that look every time they caught him looking at Leekeuk. It was a little unnerving. But he thought the three Chinese boys giving knowing looks were better than Eunhyuk and Donghae’s teasing or Heechul’s teasing. He didn’t want Heechul to tease him. That would be torture.
**
On the night of the opening of the school festival their group had to split into the groups that they would be performing with. Ryeowook did a good job of hiding himself from the other singers and had one of his senior’s-Jonghyun?-text him when it was his turn to sing.
He was lucky enough to listen to his hyung sing from his hiding place. He had lever expected Leeteuk to have such a heavenly voice… well he figured his hyung would… he was a Pretty after all.
He had finally (the night before) had decided to play the piano and sing a (love) song he had written a week after he had moved. He didn’t really know why, but every time he would look through his composition book the song just popped out at him. It also made him think of his hyung. Man was he nervous.
When It was time to go on stage Shindong stuttered over his name; not expecting it, and Leeteuk proudly said his name but looked surprised when he saw the piano being wheeled out by techies from the theatre department.
Ryeowook gave a weak smile and a deep bow to the audience, and he sat down at the piano and began to play.
**
Leeteuk was speechless. He had no idea Ryeowook could play the piano. He just thought that Ryeowook wrote his songs acapella; not with a piano. And then he began to sing. Leeteuk felt himself literally stop breathing for a second. Ryeowook’s voice was beautiful. He was happy him and Shindong had stepped off stage to listen to this performance. He thought the beautiful song ended too soon as Ryeowook played the last note, stood and bowed to the audience again. The audience clapped and cheered at him; some even giving cat calls and shouting for him to play more.
Leeteuk couldn’t take it for much longer he wanted to tell Ryeowook. He wanted to shout it to everyone, whom he was sure they all knew already-except for Ryeowook himself. He just didn’t know how to put it.
So when Ryeowook stepped off stage to the wing he was standing in, Leeteuk did the first rational thing he could think of, which was grabbing the smaller boy and crushing their lips together. He couldn’t even call it a real kiss because Ryeowook didn’t respond and he was almost positive the younger boy’s eyes were wide open the five seconds their lips were attached.
Plus he didn’t even give Ryeowook a chance to even do anything, respond or push him away, because he quickly stepped back and ran off throwing his microphone at a wide eyed Eunhyuk. The dancers had just entered the wing of the stage.
Henry smirked at Ryeowook, who looked so confused and happy and angry at the same time! What was that for?!
“You do like him. So go and get him!” Henry spoke in Mandarin and Hangeng quickly nodded.
“But-“
“Oh hush and go after him!” Donghae said smiling widely, “It’s about time you two got together!”
All Ryeowook could do was nod and run after his favorite hyung.
**
Leeteuk couldn’t believe he just did that! He thought he was thinking rational but he just-“Gah why did I do a stupid thing like that?!” He started beating himself up, “I bet now he really hates me! And I’ll never get to see that pretty smile or hear his pretty laughs directed towards me!”
“hyung?” He heard from a familiar angelic voice. He looked up and saw Ryeowook looking directly at him.
“Wook-Ryeowook.” Was all he could say as he watched his fondest dongsaeng walk closer to him and sit by him.
“I-I liked your performance.” Ryeowook started out, “It was very nice. You have a pretty singing voice-“
“My voice is nothing compared to yours!” Leeteuk burst out, blushing.
“Teukie hyung? Do you like me?” Were the next words that came out of Ryeowook’s mouth.
“I-I…” Leeteuk felt like he couldn’t breathe again. He looked at Ryeowook’s face and saw no anger, “Yes I do. I’ve liked you for a while now.”
He looked away from Ryeowook’s face just in time not to see the smile that spread across the younger’s face, “Good!”
Leeteuk looked up quickly and felt a soft pair of lips meet his in a soft, gentle, nervous kiss. He smiled softly to himself and leaned into the kiss wrapping his arms around the younger’s waist.
Ryeowook broke the kiss first. He smiled at his hyung and asked, “Will you be my Pretty boyfriend?”
“If you’ll be my only boyfriend,” Leeteuk responded giving Ryeowook a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
