“Are you sure you wanna do this hyung? You know you don’t have to do this.” Yesung said nervously looking at Leeteuk standing in the living room.
“Yes I’m sure I want to do this! You guys make fun of my driving so I’m gonna prove to you all that I am perfectly capable of-”
“Hyung,” Yesung interrupted, “Flying a plane is completely different from driving a car.”
That was the talk Yesung and Leeteuk had about four months ago. Yesung was surprised when his hyung came up to him that night and said he was gonna learn how to fly. Yesung thought he was crazy. With all the problems Leeteuk had learning how to drive, he was surprised his hyung wanted to fly. Yesung now thought he himself was crazy. How on earth did he end up alone in a plane with said wanna-be pilot?
After their talk Leeteuk said he would learn and show every one that he could fly. He had it in his head that flying would be easy. Heechul tried to stick in his head that one crash could kill every one with him. But he didn’t think about that. He just wanted to prove that he didn’t fail at something that involved using a steering wheel.
“But planes don’t have steering wheels,” Ryeowook had pointed out one night. Leeteuk faltered but said that you still had to steer a plane and that was the point. The others just rolled their eyes and hoped Leeteuk could handle a plane. Most of them also began to think of ways to talk him out of actually flying a plane. He was already taking classes.
Eunhyuk and Donghae came up with fake charts of how many people died of plane crashes over car crashes every year. Leeteuk just laughed and said he already looked the statistics on line and he figured he was not going to crash. He then walked into the door he forgot he closed and the other two’s faces paled watching their hyung.
Kyuhyun said it would be cool to learn how to fly and Leeteuk said the second youngest would never learn how to fly. Kyuhyun was surprised when he went to the school and wouldn’t even get admitted to flying lessons. He found out later that Leeteuk had convinced all the teachers not to teach him. Kyuhyun asked why and Leeteuk shuddered and said, “Videogames…”
Heechul smirked when he heard Leeteuk, “any one that can crash a plane in a video game before he even gets it on the runway should not learn how to fly one in real life.” Leeteuk rolled his eyes and said that that only happened once. Kyuhyun and Heechul said he should make a plane take off on Kyuhyun’s new game. Heechul and Kyuhyun almost died laughing and Heechul had to change his sentence, “you correct me Leeteuk, any one that gets onto the runway and crashed right before the plane gets into the air should not fly in real life. Ever.”
Kibum didn’t really care if Leeteuk learned how to fly. He did think it was cool and convinced Leeteuk he was more responsible than Kyuhyun and he could be mature and learn how to fly. The two of them ended up taking classes together, but Kibum wouldn’t do flight simulations with Leeteuk. And when it came to the time when they had to actually fly Kibum stopped going to the classes.
Kangin didn’t want Leeteuk to fly. For one thing it took Leeteuk about eight times just to pass his driving test. During all of those tests he hit something; the last one he hit one of the concrete parking thingies. He passed with the lowest score because no one wanted to test him. They were sure the driving instructors told everyone in Korea that taught and tested driving about Leeteuk’s driving skills- or lack thereof- and no one would get in a car with him without the proper tools to get out of a wrecked car and the police’s number already dialed.
Leeteuk couldn’t even get a break from Sungmin. The poor boy still wouldn’t ride in a car with Leeteuk driving. If he saw Leeteuk was driving he would call a cab. Sungmin walked up to Leeteuk and said, “Hyung when you get your pilot’s license could you tell me the route you will take when you fly?” Leeteuk looked at him confused and asked why, “So when you’re in the air I can get away from the flight risk.” Leeteuk looked even more confused, “It’s so when you crash I won’t be near…” Leeteuk sulked in his room the rest of the day. When Ryeowook took him his food he saw his hyung studying.
Siwon prayed every morning, noon, and night that his hyung would decide to give up on flying. He even sent out a prayer request to everyone he knew. Leeteuk didn’t find out about this one. Siwon told everyone he sent the request to that he would surly end up in a ditch somewhere if Leeteuk found out. Siwon knew his hyung would not want to have prayers about him involving not flying.
On the other hand Hangeng, Zhou Mi, and Henry wanted Leeteuk to learn. They all had their fears of Leeteuk, knowing how he drives, but excitement over powered the fear. All three of them were excited because if Leeteuk could fly they might be able to go home more often.
Shindong would quiz Leeteuk on planes during dinner, in the car, at the store, right before bed, watching TV, even while he was in the shower. Each time Leeteuk would roll his eyes and answer the questions with a smile. Shindong was, to say the least, very impressed with Leeteuk because he answered the questions right ninety-nine percent of the time.
Looking back why didn’t Yesung tell his hyung not to fly? He didn’t know. But if he did maybe the three that wanted Leeteuk to fly would be with him instead of Yesung. Maybe even Shindong, he wasn’t mean to their hyung.
He could see why Ryeowook wasn’t with Leeteuk in the plane. He was afraid of heights! Every time they went on a plane Ryeowook wore a blindfold. He didn’t even look out of windows that were placed above the second floor.
Leeteuk gave Yesung a quick smile as he pulled the little plane onto the run way, “Ready Yesung?”
“Whatever you say Hyung,” Yesung gulped and the plane sped up. Yesung quickly closed his eyes expecting the plane to crash at any second. He heard Leeteuk giggle but didn’t open his eyes for about ten more minutes. All he could think of was, why me? They were flying to meet everyone else in China. Yesung wanted to go with the others but Leeteuk cornered him and gave him those puppy dog eyes that no one ever saw and said he would go with his hyung.
“You should open your eyes Yesunggie. The view is amazing!” Leeteuk said.
Yesung opened his eyes and saw Leeteuk looking at him and freaked out, “Keep your eyes on the sky!” Yesung yelled making sure he was wearing his seat belt.
Leeteuk laughed but looked forward again, “It’s not like I’m gonna crash into anything, there aren’t any mountains arou-SQUIRREL!” Leeteuk suddenly yelled and did a nose dive.
Did they forget their hyung had ADD?
Yesung freaked out and started yelling incoherently at Leeteuk. Leeteuk brought the plane out of a nose dive and looked apologetic. Yesung was fuming.
When Leeteuk landed the plane Yesung got off as fast as he could and met up with the others. Ryeowook noticed he was angry asked him why, and all Yesung could say was, “He saw a fucking squirrel! From the sky and nose dived!”
Everyone looked impressed, “How did he see a squirrel from so high up?” Donghae asked.
Heechul looked appalled, “Better question: how does a squirrel fuck itself?”
