Eloquence escapes me this morning, but in all honesty, I don't remember a time when I've been prouder to be an American. I almost can't fathom how much the very fact of Obama's election is going to change our country--and regardless of how his term goes, this is one thing that is going to have a positive effect no matter what.

An African-American political analyst for CNN summed it up so beautifully last night: he said that, before today, if a black child said they wanted to grow up to be president, the parent would have to be cynical, and at some point insert a measure of doubting reality into their child's hopes. But "after tonight," he said, nearly in tears, "I can't say that anymore."

This is such a huge, huge step in the right direction. Even though I voted for Obama and hoped he'd win, I really think that McCain would have been a fine president (Sarah Palin, on the other hand...), and he gave such a gracious concession speech last night... I honestly believe that both McCain and Obama have a sincere love for America, and that when McCain says he'll work with Obama to bring the parties together, I believed him 100%. (Sarah Palin, I'm sure, will enjoy the chance to return to Alaska indefinitely. :D )

And then, Obama's speech was so insanely well constructed. He did something incredibly important, which was essentially to say, "Look, I'm going to do the best I can, but if we're gonna be successful here, everyone is going to have to pull their weight and make an effort for change." It was like a brilliant disclaimer, and it also serves to bring him even closer to the people he's trying to bring together.

America, ya done good. ♥ I can't wait to see where we go from here.
