So, last night I watched the show "Crusoe" on TV. I actually thought it looked lame from the clips and stuff I'd seen, but I decided to watch it anyway because I thought if it totally tanks it might prevent studios from making historical/semi-literary shows in the future. :P
It wasn't as lame as I thought, but it was a little boring. I really liked Friday, however. The guy who plays Robinson is a little too angular for my tastes. But I read an article where he says he read the book and studied the history of the period to prepare for the role, and I think that's pretty darn cool. :) Not sure if I'd watch it again, but since the only other thing to watch on Friday nights is Wifeswap, stranger things have happened. :P
A few days ago, my mom and I watched "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" on TV. I remember watching that movie when I was really little, and I totally didn't get that it was about WWII and fighting off the Nazis. The added historical context really appealed to me, because I love history blended with fantasy, and I said to myself, "Y'know, this is based on a book--I should really read this book!" But upon further research, it came to light that WWII does not figure into the book. Aw, phooey.
Due to this viewing, however, I have had the
Beautiful Briny Sea song stuck in my head ever since. And on Thursday night, I woke up at 2 a.m. and couldn't get back to sleep for a while because my mind kept chanting "TraGUna...maCOIdes...treCOrum SAtis DEE."
Speaking of that. It may not come as much of a surprise that the same writing team who wrote the songs for "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" wrote the songs for "Mary Poppins." But who knew they also wrote the songs for "Winnie the Pooh" and "Let's Get Together" from The Parent Trap?? ...I like random connections like that, anyway. :P
