Christmas Adventures

Christmas was wonderful this year. Matthew and I went out to his parents house in Ferndale. It is such a charming Victorian town. All the houses were just lovely with perfect yards. There were also so many fun and charming looking shops. Unfortunately most of the shops were closed, but we did get to go to one that was filled with some fun toys, like Alice music boxes, I especially liked the one featuring the Humpty Dumpty scene! It also had so many cute parasols, umbrellas, fans and tea sets. Oh, and gorgeous porcelain dolls. I cannot wait to go back when things are opened! There is also a yarn shop there, it was closed, but the owner told Matthew's mother that she would love to help me in figuring out how to run my own yarn shop! I did get to meet her very briefly and she seemed like a wonderful lady!

We also got to go through the Avenue of the Giants which is filled with huge redwoods. We got to see the immortal tree with has been there for 1000 years and survived the lumberman's axe, floods, and lighting. It was amazing to see. We also got to play in the woods and explore a bit climbing on fallen logs and we found some amazing trees. My favorite by far looked like it came straight out of a fairy tale. It was split opened like a tent and inside were three stripped logs all from the same tree and cut to the exact same size laying perfectly on the right side, if you were looking in, and in the left side in the curve of the tree was a hollowed and flattened out area with sticks laid perfectly on the ground with stones placed on top to look like a fire place, and in the middle against the trunk was a lump of dirt with moss growing it looked like a bed with a blanket. It felt so serene and there were no belonging or since of people anywhere. And the most peculiar thing was on the right was a little imp looking figure that appeared to be growing out of the base of the trunk, but while the rest of the tree was a light brown shade on the inside of the tree, this one was pitch black. I have decided this is the home of an imp that was trying to hide from human eyes. It was such a charming set up I wish I had remembered the camera that was in the car. Oh! I forgot the last little detail to the little house. The bark up about 4 maybe 5 feet directly across from the middle of the entrance was an opening that from the other side looked like a heart shaped window! It was so cute.

I do hope we get the chance to go out there again, but it is a six hour drive, so it is not likely to happen any time soon! I miss being able to explore the woods, it is also so rejuvenating! I really miss being able to see the stars as well, we are supposed to be moving back up to Quincy so I will be able to do that again soon!
