Part 1

One day when Ohno and Sho went out for lunch, Sho asked Ohno a question out of nowhere. “Ohno-kun, have you ever hoped that things would never change? Sometimes I wanted to stop time, especially during times like this.”

Ohno tilted his head a little, thinking. “Uuum honestly I never think of things like that. I supposed it would be nice to stop the time. But, we wouldn’t have any future, would we?” Sho looked thoughtful and he smiled a little. Ohno had become a very important person to him. Ohno’s existence was like air. Without him Sho couldn’t breathe normally.

A few days after the conversation, the balance between them was disturbed. An art student, a girl, started following Ohno around everywhere. Ohno didn’t like her, but he was too kind to reject her directly and just tried to avoid her. Apparently, whatever Ohno did, it didn’t work. The girl stuck to him like glue.

The first time Sho saw her was at the cafeteria. She was sitting next to an annoyed-looking Ohno. Sho waived at him and Ohno said some things at her then walked towards Sho. He put his hand on Sho’s shoulder and leaned in. “Huh. At last I can get away from her. She’s so annoying. Let’s eat at the music room.”

From then on, Sho never saw Ohno alone. She always stuck close to his side. Sho started to suspect that there was something going on between them that he didn’t even want to know. He felt his heart ached, and he missed Ohno like crazy. He was feeling suffocated. The air that he needed to breathe was not around anymore.

It was another rainy day, and Ohno was supposed to meet Sho at the music room. He waited for him while staring at the window and listening to the sound of the rain. He remembered the day when he first met Sho, and the friendship that gradually developed after that. Lately, he felt that Sho had put a distance between them. He could guess the reason and he didn’t feel happy about it. He didn’t like the girl and he had to tell her the truth. He promised himself that he would tell her as soon as possible.

Right then, he heard the door opened, and Ohno glanced to the door with a smile. “Finally, he’s coming.” Ohno couldn’t wait to see Sho. He missed Sho so much. Unfortunately, it was the girl who came in, and she thought that Ohno’s smile was directed to her. She walked towards Ohno, and made a sudden move, kissing him right on the lips.

Ohno was shocked.  He pushed the girl and quickly wiped away the trace of the kiss on his lips. Then he saw Sho standing at the door, stunned and eyes wide, shocked at the scene he just saw.

Sho turned and quickly ran outside. His chest clenched. It hurt so much. He didn’t care about the hard rain lashing on his body. This was even worse than his previous heartbreak. He blamed his own pride because he wouldn’t admit his feelings. Now everything was too late. He would lose Ohno forever. The air that he needed to breathe would vanish, just like that.

Sho just stood there under the rain, crying silently. He wished that the rain could wash away his pain and make him forget about everything. Suddenly, he felt a hand holding his wrist tightly. He turned around and there was Ohno, looking sad and very worried. “Sho-kun.” Ohno gently pulled him into a tight embrace.

They stayed like that until the rain stopped. Maybe it was minutes or hours later, they didn’t know. It felt right, for them to be in each other arms.

When they finally let go, Ohno lightly touched Sho’s cheeks. “Sho-kun, I…”

Sho didn’t let Ohno finished his words. He silenced him with his own lips, as if he was afraid he would lose him again.

The kiss started gently, and then became more intimate and desperate. Lips met each other and soon their tongues danced together.  Ohno never felt this way before. When Sho sealed his lips, he felt complete. Now that Sho was in his arms, he promised he would never let him go.

After they parted, they just looked at each other lovingly, amazed at the discovery they had just made. They belonged to each other and nothing would separate them. Not anymore.

Suddenly, Sho broke the silence. “Satoshi-kun, look over there!” They stood in place, hand in hand, looking at the beautiful rainbow that came out after the hard rain. It was a once in lifetime moment that would be engraved in their memories forever.

Later, Ohno painted the image of them holding hands while looking at the rainbow. “It will be a precious remembrance of what we had.” Ohno smiled when he gave the painting to Sho.

One month before their performance, Sho finally finished the music arrangement made for their project. It was titled, “The Melody of the Rain.” Sho told Ohno that the music represented their story. When Ohno asked for explanation, Sho just smiled and he promised to reveal the meaning later on.

They used the one month left to practice insanely, as if there would be no tomorrow. They often stayed together in the music room, sometimes with Jun, Aiba, and Nino watching them practicing. Despite his constant whining that Sho (and sometimes Nino) was such a strict music teacher, Ohno was a gifted piano player. He learnt fast, and in such a short time, he could play the piano gracefully.

It was the day before the performance, when Sho suddenly interrupted Ohno’s practice at the piano.  “Satoshi-kun, do you know why I said that ‘The Melody of The Rain’ represents us?” Ohno shook his head. “Well, the music piece consists of 3 parts right? The first one is the gentle rain. It represents my feelings when we just knew each other. The atmosphere between us felt calm, but refreshing. The second one is the storm. That was the day when we discovered our feelings to each other. Honestly, I thought I’ve lost you that day.  The third one is the rainbow, the most beautiful rainbow that sealed our promise to each other.”

Just right after Sho finished his sentence, Ohno stood up and walked towards Sho. He leaned and kissed Sho’s lips lightly. “I love you, Sho-kun,” Ohno said it, while brushing his hands through Sho’s hair.

Sho blushed and answered softly, “Me too, Satoshi-kun.”

Their performance was a great success. The professor praised them and their classmates clapped their hands endlessly. They glanced at each other while smiling. From then on, they would walk hand in hand towards the future.
