I can't remember who I have told what so...
I have been battling colon/rectal cancer for 4 years now. In June I was taken off the last traditional therapy for it because the cancer started growing again. I have enjoyed the time away from therapies that rot my hands and give me headaches, however I can feel the lumps growing and one in particular is getting rather sensitive so here is the update I have sent to family and friends.
Well folks, Thursday, August 27th I’m going to Tyler, Tx to begin a clinical trial. It will be PG-11047 and 5-Flurouracil, that means nothing to most of us but it will make sense to some. I’ve had 5-FU, which is the shorthand for 5-Flurouracil, before and tolerate it well. The only side-effect I’ve experienced was mouth sores but I have a new treatment for that, so I am not concerned.
The testing of this new drug is to find the upper dosage limit that can be tolerated. So far the only side-effect is tingling in the face and diarrhea. The tingling so far has responded to steroids (don’t know which ones) and I guess I will be investing in Depends just to be safe. I will be going once a week for treatment in 8 week cycles. If the cancer responds I will stay on it indefinitely (or at least until the Lord heals me).
I have two people who have already stepped up to say they will help with the driving, plus Linus wants to take me the first couple of times.
God is good
