Ahh.. It's been a while since I last saw a drama of Kame and Pi. This got me all excited because seriously, this is a Shuji to Akira reunion! (for those who has seen Nobuta wo Produce, a dorama back in 2005 that starred Kame and Pi with Horikita Maki). Anyway, here's a brief recap of episode one. First time in a while doing this, so sorry if it sounds too rushed. :)

The story starts out with 29-year old, Makoto Masaki's (Kamenashi Kazuya) first day of work in a water company. He is introduced by his boss, Shokichi Karasuda, to the other employees. Everything goes out well and they talk about his welcome party that they will have for him on the same evening.
Then we have 29-year old, Haruko Kogetsu from the next door Marketing Company. Here she is having a presentation on statistics regarding single people, married people and age represenation for each.
Her bestfriend, Sankei Yotsuya, selling her out to their boss, saying that Haruko herself has not gone out on her own. (lol)
The guys have their nomikai and Makoto gets grilled by his co-workers about his love life. His close friend, Katsuo Katsuragi, divulges that Makoto always gets unlucky when it comes to women. Makoto then reveals that he currently has a very pretty girlfriend and everyone is surprised when he shows them a photo from his phone. His co-workers then say that having looks like Makoto is very dangerous.
In the same bar, Haruko and Sankei talk about the latters recent relationship. Sankei apparently found out that her current boyfriend is also meeting other women aside from her. Haruko then straightforwardly tells her what she thinks and that she should break-up with him immediately and that she shouldn't be wasting her time with things like this because they are already reaching their 30's very soon.
Moving on, Makoto cleans his apartment and heads on to shop for some fancy wine for a romantic dinner date he planned to have with his girlfriend. He ditches a 2000yen wine for a luxurious 14000yen wine.
On his way back home, he sees this guy......
*LOL look at Kame's shooked face!*
This mysterious man suddenly starts talking about how his girlfriend will not show up.
He turns on the TV and Makoto sees his girlfriend being arrested for swindling money out of people. She turned out to be con-artist.
In great shock and despair and even verbalizes that no good thing ever happens to him when it comes to his love life, Makoto then thanks this mysterious man and mistakenly identifies him as a detective.
The mysterious man quckly denies this and introduces himself as God.
*I love how Pi says "G.O.D. right here!" in english!*
Still very confused on what's happening, Makoto threatens the mysterious man that he will call the police if he continues to play around.
Until he finds this photo in his pocket instead of his cellphone.
And yup, that's when the mysterious man drops the bomb. Haruko is Makoto's destined other half. He explains to him that he will have to get married to Haruko by the end of the year and have a child by next year because 30 years from now, the Earth will face a tremendous disaster and that only their child can save the planet. A meteor approaching the Earth will go off course and will directly hit planet. It will be known that their child will win a Nobel peace prize and physics prize. Makoto finds out from this guy that his destined other half, Haruko, works at the same building and that only a wall separates them from each other. Of course, Makoto does not believe all these crap that this random man is talking about.
The next day, Makoto suggests to his boss that he will go over to the neighboring marketing company to try and sell their water product to them.
There he finally sees his supposed "destined other half".
Wedding bells starts to play in the background!
*LOL*
Moving on, Makoto continues with his mission to sell their product. Here he is seen doing his best to persuade the company's boss. Until he finally gets the sweet "okay".
Makoto's boss on the other hand is surprised over this.
He never had a good history with the lady boss from next door. He apparently (unkowingly?) closed the elevators on her several times in the past therefore resulting to their current sour relationship. That's why they couldn't get them to sell their products to them in the past.
Moving on, Makoto heads back to his apartment with high spirits after his recent accomplishment at work. To his surprise once more, the mysterious man suddenly show up.
With his shoes still on, which he claims to be clean, he continues to bug him about his destined girl and why he didn't approach her when he already saw her with his two eyes earlier. Of course Makoto claims that he still does not believe on what he says.
The mysterious man then pulls out an old album showing Makoto some childhood photos. In one photo at the beach shows a little girl with Makoto.
A childhood memory of them building a sand castle and even accidentaly touching each others hand.
This little girl, according to the mysterious man, was Haruko and was Makoto's first love. Hopefully, vice versa as well.
The mysterious man now pulls out an old pencil from Makotos desk.
Another memory he had with Haruko where she lended him this pencil during their entrance exam for university.
Even their entrance number for the exams were close to each other. This, when read out loud, sounds like "Samishii~" (Lonely).
Another old photograph was shown to Makoto which apparently, also showed Haruko at the back.
The story behind this was when Makoto went on his first shrine visit of thi year. A 5-yen coin thrown by Haruko, who was also in the same shrine, accidentally hit Makoto in the head.
Of course, Makoto never found out who threw that coin.
Here, Haruko wished and prayed that she meets her destined man and for them to get married. This chain of memories ended with a conversation between Makoto and the mysterious man that Makoto, little by little is starting to believe on what he's saying. He wants to take things slowly when it comes to approaching Haruko.
Next is the scene with Haruko's family. Her parents find out that a younger friend of Haruko is unexpectedly already getting married. They wonder when Haruko's turn will be next. She dismisses this conversation immediately.
A weird dream then creeps up on Makoto.
He was old and single. The unfortunate catastrophe that the earth was to face, came, and everyone was blaiming him for not approaching Haruko in the past and marrying her so they would bear their "child savior". (LOL)
Next up, a scene with Haruko and Sankei. The latter followed Haruko's advice on breaking up with her two-timer boyfriend. Sankei, who moves on quite quickly, invites Haruko to a goukon where rich and young single men will be involved. She tries to persuade her that with this group date, Haruko might also find the right guy for her. Of course, Haruko straight away rejects this idea with a straight face. (LOL).
During Makoto's lunch break, he finally gets to the realization that he needs to approach Haruko very soon. He ended up going to the shrine that the they visited and finds Haruko's ema with her wish to meet her destined guy written on it.
And.. the time has come. An elevator scene. Of course!
Haruko saves the door for him.
That awkward silence as they reach the ground floor.
Finally, Makoto breaks the ice for the swift "attack"! Without any filter at all, he goes on telling her that he is her destined guy!! (hahaha omg)
Makoto tries his best to explain to her the bizzareness of the mysterious guy's stories. But of course, Haruko isn't buying any of these and thinks of him as a weirdo.
Even gets the security involved.
Poor Makoto.
His back hurts and his ego is down. Only a nice hot shower and a cold beer can make him feel better.
And maybe a surprise visit from "God" himself?
Or maybe not.
He blames the mysterious man for what happened earlier. But of course, to his, defense, the mysterious man points out how wrong his method of approaching Haruko was and that there was better ways of going about it.
Makoto, being all fed up, wants the mysterious guy to just stop following him. Until of course, the guy shows him the pencil and tries to convince him once more. That maybe, if he tries to return what belongs to her, things could start from there....
Meanwhile, in the Kogetu household that same evening. Haruko's parents try to convice her to attend a reunion party with her former classmates from school.
Her dad, trying to persuade her with his story of meeting her mom on a similar occasion, tells her that it might happen to Haruko as well and she could meet someone if she attends the party. Haruko apparently already declined the offer.
Makoto gets assigned to a far away mountain for a business trip.
He meets an elderly couple and immediately starts business with them.
Everything ended well and Makoto successfully, sells their product to the nice elderly couple.
On his way back, at the train station, while on his phone, he sees Haruko...
Their eyes meet, and Haruko quickly tries to avoid him. (lol)
Makoto chases after her and tries to explain that their meeting here is only a coincidence even showing the contract paper works he had!
It turns out, that Haruko was also there for a business trip. Makoto then again slowly tries to open up the subject of "destiny" with Haruko. He shows her the pencil the she lent him in the past. She remembered.
Makoto then shows her their childhood photo and explains how everything was faith.
Haruko stayed silent for a while until.....
She quickly returns the photo and tells him that what he is doing was creepy and uncomfortable. She tells him not to talk to her ever again.
Shocked and speechless, Makoto watches Haruko ride the train and leave.
When Haruko returns, she tells Sankei everything and of course, her friend, being so surprised, believes that Makoto and Haruko are really meant for each other!
Makoto on the other hand, return to his home, drunk and searching for the mysterious guy until he shows up. Makoto lashes out on him saying that this "destiny business" is not working well for him and that questions why he has to marry someone he does not love and someone as cold as Haruko? The mysterious guy tells him that if Haruko is really his type then Makoto should do somehting about it. He then gets cut off by Makoto saying that if he really is God, then He should do something about it.
Makoto then continuous to tell him not to say that it will be his fault if the Earth is destined to be washed out. Not Makoto's fault. Not Haruko's fault either. He then tells this guy to just go and leave. The mysterious guy apologizes and disappears into thin air.
The next day, Makoto finds a ticket for an orchestra that he was supposed to watch with his ex-girlfriend. He offers it to his friend, Kazuo, but was rejected. He ended up going alone.
Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 "Faith" was performed.
Another childhood memory occurs to Makoto. A baseball game where his team lost.
Makoto was on a corner in tears for their lost.
He then rememebers being approached by a girl, who apparently was Haruko, and being cheered on for doing a great job at the game.
The symphony ended. He gives thems a standing ovation until he notices that to his right, there was Haruko, also giving a standing ovation. They see each other in shock.
Haruko, now back in her home, pulls out an old album and looks at another childhood photo of her and the young boy, who is supposed to be Makoto.
The episode ends with the mysterious guy showing up again before Makoto and explains about the memory he just had while watching the orchestra. He then shows him an old photo of his baseball team. And with that, the mysterious guy points out that the pitcher who got his throw that made his team lost was actually somehow related to Haruko in the past and that they still had some kind of "unfisnished business" and that they would soon be reunited after many years, which, this could also be called destiny. The mysterious man then tell Makoto that he has to face this rival properly. Makoto, now very convinced, decided to pursue this seriously.
The episode ends with Makoto's rival entering his first day of work in a company building just across the building where Makoto and Haruko works.
First Impression
I honestly enjoyed the first episode! I loved it. The fact that Kame and Pi are once again, starring in a rom-com show, sold me. Pi being the "God of Destiny" in this show is just hilarious. I mean, he pretty much is just acting like himself in real life too. Those silly little actions that he does on his scenes never gets old. Kame, on the other hand, it still the brilliant actor that he always was. I also like the heroine in this show. I like how she always keeps a straight face and has a sharp tongue not to the degree of being annoying and stuff. Fumino Kimura was on last seasons A Life (KimuTaku) and ironically, Nanao is also in here. Anyway, episode 1 was great on introducing the main characters. I also like how they showed a lot of childhood events for the characters that would really make you think and be amazed on how faith and destiny works. I just downloaded episode 2 and will go ahead and watch it tonight. Again, sorry for this poorly written episode re-cap. I kinda have some spare time to use and I've always wanted to do something like this since I love watching Japanese drama and anime. lol :)
