This post is somewhat after the fact but I want to record it...

This year's pigs are gone. We sent our two to the abattoir first and butchered them at home, in the barn, with Hugh Fearnley Whatsischop's 'Pig in a day' DVD being constantly paused and replayed on a laptop covered with clingfilm. It was surprisingly straightforward and we've been enjoying sausages, bacon, chops and roasts with loads remaining to keep us going until next year's pigs will be ready next summer.

We also grew 'half pigs' for others and had a separate butchery weekend here to process them. Ian and Hattie both butchered their half pigs and we had a marvellous, social weekend of drinks, tunes, barbeques and good chat. I love living up here but do miss seeing my friends - made this weekend extra special. Everything went well and it was a great event. Must do it again next, if not every, year.
