Just a few minutes ago, when I walked back from down town, I saw my cat sitting in the bushes in front of our house, in the shade to stay cool. He didn't immediately get up when I arrived and opened the door, but before he had been begging to come in, so I held the door for him for a few seconds in case he were to change his mind.
Just as I was about to close it, quite the wrong animal came in. Flying. It seems that he had been watching a blue jay nearby, and IT followed me in. So then he raced after it inside as it flew up into the skylight area.
I tried to frighten it into going out the door again, instead of trying to go out the skylight. Birds fit the definition of insanity quite well - it kept trying for quite a while.
Eventually, though, I got it down from there. Instead, it tried to get out the window. My cat was sitting at the bottom. The door was right near by, and OPEN. Stupid, stupid bird.
So, being more sane in regards to the window, and only trying a few times, it once more retreated to the skylight. I proceeded to climb on the bunk bed underneath, so that I could block it away from the area once it left again.
It did. It went back to the window. It failed to get out the top of the window, and went behind the curtains. Not enough room to fly, and nothing to land on. It fell down towards the sill...right next to which my cat was waiting.
Pounce, and the bird was out of the curtain and onto the lower bed. TC's teeth wasted no time in grabbing the bird's chest and securing their grip. I wasted no time in shouting at my cat to get off my brother's bed and outside. My cat proceeded to wait for the bird to die, and then he started eating it. I left him ripping into the bird's throat.
Silly cat. He'd just eaten, too. Yet he stared at that bird like nothing else existed, except when he was whining at me. I think that he thought I was incapable of catching the bird myself for food, and so he (the aging little guy...) had to do it. Not that he offered to share. (Of course, I was being loud and scary at him, so he wouldn't be expected to.) Not sure what else he would be whining about.
It's all kind of sad, though. I love my cat, and it was just an annoying blue jay, and it was a pain and involved me climbing around on beds, but still...I didn't want TC to catch the bird. I wanted him to go free, and make more annoying little birdlets. Cats and instinct. It's just their nature to hunt, I know, but it still makes me sad.
Now, Aurora, what will TC be like in Citrus!, I wonder...both versions, of course... Hehehe.
