HBO Latinamerica just showed the last two episodes of Games of Thrones back to back in a finale party. Because I'm lame, I hadn't seen them before, so I took the chance.
Jesus, this series. That was so, so fucking stunning and brilliant and wonderfully done and the ending of Baelor hurt, even knowing what happened and I'm so, so proud of little Sansa and heartbroken for all of the Starks
and I got chills when Robb was proclaimed King in the North. Shae was like ten times more interesting than she is in the books (I'd always pictured her as a doe-like blonde that's ambitious but not that smart), and the scenes with her, Tyrion and Bronn were brilliant. And Catelyn's confrontation with Jaime! And Sam and Pyp and Grenn chanting the Night's Watch vows to get Jon to stay, uggggh and the start of Arya's bitter, bitter road that yet never gets her down.
And then there was Dany getting on that pyre. If there's any character that I'd bet anything on surviving the whole seven books, it's Daenerys, because if she doesn't sit on the Iron Throne, if she doesn't become the queen she already partly is, then there is just no justice. Dany with her dragons in the last scene gave me a lump in my throat, I have to admit. Wonderful, wonderful scene.
They just completely stepped up the game in the last half of the series. A Golden Crown and these two were easily the best episodes of the series, they were complex, gripping, masterfully paced, absolutely gorgeous, and they finally had a lot more music that just rounded it up beautifully.
