2008 has died, long live the new year!

Hiiii, I'm back, you guys. :3 I shopped like my life depended on it and spent like crazy and now I have no moneys left but I do have a load of new clothes and pretty sparkly girly things and new converse sneakers and about 150 dollars worth of books. Mmm, books. ♥ Am also now the proud owner of Pushing Daisies S1 and the super extended ultimate big version of Iron Man. WEEE, TONY FUCKING STARK. AND They both play in the mac, which I was worried about - my old laptop refused to accept dvds of regions other than 4.

I'm usually not fond of food in the US because it seems like the best food over there is homemade, which I've never had, and I tend to eat a lot of fast food, which sucks. Still, if people in the US know one thing, is their burgers. Oh, those burgers. I had a lot of those, haha. The best one? Probably Johny Rocket, with the added value of a frankly awesome 50s retro decoration.

Almost all of my family went, as in, we were a bazillion people, but mostly it was my parents, my brother, my two girl cousins and their parents all the time (the rest, ah, we don't get along that well with, as they're another cousins cousins, the infamous Torres family (lol) and they're really hard to swallow), which meant fun times were had. :)

Best anecdote? Well, not best, precisely, but well: We had each a walkie talkie, so we'd be in contact while we split up to shop and to drive and whatnot. Well. On the 31st, we got somewhat lost while driving in a dark, lonely alley, next to a trucker resting place. Not the best place to get lost in, you'll agree. In any case, suddenly there was static in the walkie talkie, and a voice saying 'bueno', which we ignored. Then, moments later, the same voice drawls, in Spanish, I am watching you, all slow and laconic and shit, but I nearly pissed myself. He said the same time a couple other times, and then What's your name? By which time we sort of got the hell away from there. It doesn't sound nearly as awful in writting, but it was so fucking scary, because doesn't it sound like the opener for a crappy scary movie? It was probably one of the truckers making a practical joke, but it scared the hell out of me in the moment, especially because my dear, dearest (grr) cousin decided to repeat the words a while later, while I was alone in the car in the dark, and I was half expecting to find a mad axman waiting for me over my bed during the night.

But enough about me. How did you guys celebrated New Year's Eve? Mine was boring, thuth to be told, as it was spent at the house said family we don't get along with rented, and we got out of there at like, 12:10, since we were heading out early in the morning. So I spent the entirety of Jan. 1st sitting in a car. For 16 hours. Joy.

2008 was a good year, over all. Not magnificent, and actually it was sort of exhausting, but I can't really complain. Now, the stats:

Books and movies I read/watched in 2008.

In all, I'm pretty proud of myself - I read 52 books and watched 59 movies - I honestly though the movie count would be higher, but I've barely watched any movies in the past few months; it's all been reading (because damnit if I wasn't going to reach my goal!) or watching tv series or reading comics obsessively. And that's another point - I read comics like I'd never before, which was frankly rather awesome.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon

Now, fic. I didn't write as many stories this year, but I wrote sever large ones; and then went and didn't write anything for nearly five months. Ugh. Counting backwards, it was: 2 Merlin fics, 1 Boondock Saints, 1 Bones, 1 Iron Man, 1 Bonsáis Gigantes and 4 SPN. Clearly, I am a fandom whore. um. My favorites:

A Thousand Shades of Red, SPN, Sam/Dean, in which Sam realizes growing up is hard. This is my baby. 10 000 words of underage gay incest, yay, and I still love every word. There's this thing; the stories I like most are the ones I sort of write for myself, and that have all I would want to read in a fic. This is it, my personal canon, you could say.

Lines (Make Me Want to Cross Them), Bones, Booth/Brennan. Again, my personal canon - the fic in this fandom is sort of shitty, to be honest, and this is the story I wanted to read. I might as well have written BOOTH AND BRENNAN LOVE EACH OTHER A LOT ALSDFJ THEY'RE ARE SO CUTE. XD Mostly, I love this one because I ended up growing so very attached to Brennan.

Grease-Stained, Iron Man Movieverse, Tony/Pepper. Because I ended up falling even harder for Tony with this one. Oh, Tony, the most misunderstood character in the entire of the Marvel Universe. And one of the most messed up, too, which is why I love him so. It's strange, because I ship Tony/Steve really hardcore in the comics, but still ship Tony/Pepper like whoa in the movie. Huh.

Prophesy, Merlin, Merlin/Arthur. I loved writing this like you wouldn't believe, and I'd been aching to write something sort of epic for a long time, and I just fell for the fandom and the characters so fast... I really like it, and it makes me go all warm inside when I see so many people liked it as well. :3

I didn't write nearly as much original fiction this year, but here are my favorites:

With the Sun in Your Eyes, Which is all about these four boys, pseudo-musicians, who go and play and ocasionally fuck with each other in the Blue Coast. This is sort of a very personal story, and I still love it to bits. I dunno, I re-read it once in a while and it's all about freedom.

Two of a Kind, which has two rather morbid lovers, and a lake, and their weird togetherness. This story is sort of crazy, and probably bipolar, but it's the kind of stuff I love writing most - it's just relaxing and exhilarating to write, don't know why.

And now I shall stop because I've been writing this for the past like, two hours and it's probably long enough, lol. So, really, HAPPY 2009! may it bring joy and adventure and love and crazy times to all of you lovely people. ♥ ♥ ♥
