I went out yesterday to see The Darjeeling Limited, and oh, but I loved loved loved it. I was so very excited about seeing this one, because The Royal Tenenbaums is in my top 3 favorite movies ever, and yet The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou fell really short. But oh, Wes Anderson has so regained my love, yes. He's just wonderful with terribly disfunctional families.
I really liked the way the brothers interacted, it's so very, well, brotherly, you know? And they way they're all completely messed up and how they still behave like ten year olds, oh! So awesome. And it was just so funny! I swear, I hadn't laughed that much in a long time, hee. AND THE VISUALS. A;LSJFALKSDJF. The photography was just gorgeous - everything was blue and orange, blue and orange, all journey long, in stark constrast to the clean, yellow and grey coloring in the short Hotel Chevalier. Which, I have to say, was good but not nearly as amazing as everyone makes it out to be*. It just pales in comparison to the actual film, and how warm and lovely it is. And the ending! So nice and deep in its simplicity. :)
My first movie of 2008, and what a wonderful way to start the year. ♥
*Also, for such a overhyped thing, it was such an awkward nude scene, in all honesty. And as much as I love Natalie Portman, I kinda want to go and feed her a sandwich.
