Today was a very ratty day

Okay so, I'm keeping the rat. Yeesh. :) I guess I kinda figured. I got him a friend yesterday and I spent today shopping for a permanent cage, a few accessories, and the ingredients for the homemade "Suebee's Rat Diet" that's supposed to be so good. Oh and lab blocks. I had to go to the feed store for those.

Jake and Elwood, great names. Buy 'em little sunglasses and Elwood totally needs a black briefcase. *grins* A very nice cage you've got, they'll love romping around in it. The Dapper Rat is a good source of toys for the little fuzzballs too, and a good site overall.

Yeah, they'll fight. My group of four males still do and they've been together for a few months now. Boys will be boys! But those pet store people were a bit too concerned, I think. Telling you they'd kill each other outright? Only smaller rodents, like gerbils, will fight to the death normally. Rats are just content to 'box' and flail at one another unless there's some major aggression problems.

I am having trouble finding them the types of stuff I want, I may wind up having to shop online. Thanks. :) (I know they actually have some suitible stuff at the bird shop, I'll go sometime this week. But I want to get them a good hammock and no one around has one that I like.)

Bird toys = good. My rats have a few that I found cheap. Usually I just look for ferret hammocks and get those, though you could probably make some yourself with fleece. That's what I did, and made an extra one so that I can switch when one needs washed. :)

Well as it was a reply to a comment I made about what I had named a pair of rats in some fanfic I had written I figured it had something to do with *that*. :) I had been a member of ratties for a while previous to that post.

Boy, its easy to get a good cage for a ferret or a chinchilla, at least around here. The cage I bought was the ONLY rat cage I would have even considered buying. I find it odd that you can get so much ferret stuff here when it's illegal to purchase one in California. I know people who drove theirs over from Nevada, but still it seems odd to devote such a large chunk of Petco or PetsMart to animals that they can't even sell themselves. Oh well.
