So I brought a (live) rat home yesterday for Duchess. First of all, it turned out this is one sick rat. I guess it has an upper respiratory infection, because it just lies there and has coughing fits occasionally. Secondly, Duchess didn't want it. Or *something*. She didn't emerge from her tree until after I had turned the lights off, and then I notced her stretched all the way across the tank, with her head right *next* to this rat. I could see the rat sit up and SNIFF HER HEAD but not move away, and Duchess just staring at it. Eventually she just went back into the tree and left the rat there.
Well its never a good idea to leave a live rodent in with a snake unsupervised so I was forced to get up, go outside, dig out my 10-gallon tank, wash and disinfect it, fill it with bedding, supply little food and water dishes and an old aquarium cave to hide in, and move the rat into it. So now I have a sick rat in my living room.
What's more, after I went back to bed I heard some noise and looked to see Duchess back over where the rat had been, looking very confused, searching frantically. Where had her dinner gone??
Yeesh. :P I don't even know if I can *feed* her a sick rat - I *think* its okay - and I SO don't want to keep this rat. If she can't/won't eat it, what do I do? :P
