Brain breaking enragery

Aug 21, 2009 13:37

So I went to a blog post linked elsewhere about the whole fatophobia that's becoming de riguer at health care "debates" along with the blah blah socialism marxism nazism, mah guns mah country back, GODDAMN DINING ROOM TABLES stuff.

...and I did That Thing I Do Again.

I read comments.

I was at first fine, really, the comments were on 'my side' and the side of the OP. Which is that "OHAI STUPID ASSUMPTIONS WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK?!"

And then there were some *gems* finally that turned it into a train wreck. People who saw previous comments about how fucked up the food and farm industry is in the US, the medical establishment is, the social freakouts about obesity, etc.

"Losing weight isn't that hard! Why should anyone NOT OBESE have to put up with lazy fatties, we manage to work hard and eat right!"

"Good food isn't THAT expensive! You can spend 99 cents on a head of lettuce for lunch instead of a McDonald's burger ANY DAY!"

"I like to play a game when I see a shopping cart full of stuff, and guess what the owner's like. If it's fatty fat fat junk foods, it's gonna be a fat owner! If it's healthy food, they're gonna be thin!"

..and so on and so forth and OH GOD MY HEAD HURTS.

Gooood for you, you haven't had problems keeping weight off, commenter- or I assume this is the case. Good for the commenters who snark about how it's not like you need a gym membership to exercise, how they walk just fine past the gyms and get all their exercise. Blah Blah blah. Oh Weight Watchers worked for you! Great! No regain if you step away from a regimented diet? You manage to multitask and never break down and concentrate will all your might on keeping a calorie intake level? Awesome for you, you are the FREAKING PINNACLE OF HUMAN EVOLUTION! You're not too tired to exercise and walk after work? You live in a neighborhood you can walk freely in? You can bike without being run over where you live? Sweet! I'm happy for you!

But don't fucking decide that this means no one else is 'trying hard enough' if it is NOT working for them or they feel it's not feasible. Seriously. And when people are talking about how no, IT IS NOT THAT EASY for them, why the fuck dismiss them so readily? People are having different life experiences than you! OH NO SAY IT AIN'T SO!

I would like to know where, exactly a "head of lettuce" costs 99 cents. No, really, where? Is it true that in big major cities you can in fact find a head of lettuce for 99 cents? Because I fucking know you can't where *I* live. Also, I want to ask the commenter how often he likes to just eat a head of lettuce for lunch. With no dressing, or anything. Just, you know, YUMMY LEAVES. And also, what the FUCKING FUCK FUCKER do you eat then for other meals to get the nutritional value that *is not in lettuce* especially if you're talking iceberg.

No, seriously. Lettuce in and of itself is not a healthy meal or diet EITHER.

And oh! The shopping cart game! I know that one, because I've had people snort and scoff at me for being zomg a fatty enjoying junk food/buying junk food and sodas! It doesn't matter if I'm celebrating a birthday, or if it's the first goddamn ice cream cone or donut I've had in three days- they see it in my hand or in the cart and MY GOD THERE IT IS! PROOF I EAT LIKE THAT ALL THE TIME!

I guess in the rare occasion the asshole sees a skinny person with junk in their cart or a fat person with healthy shit, it means they're buying for someone else, or it's one of those once-a-month-weird-shopping days.

Wonder what my cart means when I've got fruits, veggies*, lean meats, and whatnot along with my case of Dr Pepper and bag of cookies. Oh, right, means the GOOD shit is for someone else, obviously, and I'm gonna go home and guzzle all the Dr Pepper, eat all the goddamn cookies, and then be back tomorrow to buy more cookies because obviously, that's what I subsist on!

Fucking asshats.

*Yes, as I've previously mentioned many times, in truth I don't eat many fruits and veggies, because of that whole My-Body-Rejects-Them-Horribly thing. Yay catch 22's that I have no control over! Bet I just need to try harder, SURELY! (Don't call me Shirly)
