This rather misses the point of being a "cheerful giver," does it not?

Oh, but she's cheerful in the end about donating ALL her books (every single one she owns) because, well, it means she's doing Good and Jebus Loves Her!

*snortleretches*

Considering how I look back and realize that even with more modern reading texts, a huge lesson I walked away with from Catholic school was "Marginalize and Martyr Yourself For Your Own Soul's Good!" seeing what to me now is like whoa blatant is highly entertaining in a lolsob way.

I mean, shit, I donate stuff to causes, both goods and money, but if I am attached to something or *broke* I have learned that it's perfectly fine to wait until I have another chance or item to donate.

But these books are so Black and White about 'giving in the name of Jesus!' that I find myself thinking that ones like them should be freaking BANNED for children just starting to read, and just starting school as hazardous for their well-being.

...And if a lot of kids are forced to read modern equivalents to this stuff, I can see why so many grow up to despise the idea of reading as a waste of time.

Count me in with Susan Sto Helit, no matter how young and fumbling a reader is, they deserve plot, and discussion and dissection of plot, and when I say plot, I mean more plot than "Obey! OBEY! OBEY!"

No kidding! *cheers*

ALL her books. 'Cuz, you know, excess is theft, and having anything for yourself (especially if you're female) means excess, and argh. ><

Clearly I am a terrible person who has Missed The Boat. *snicker* I'mma go read a book.
