There is an auction of stuff from Sul Ross today. I was supposed to wake up at 8am in order to go before the auction begins at 9 with mom to re-look over things, since she wasn't able to look with me yesterday.
I have had insomnia tonight, and been playing games. I'm finally tired enough to sleep, but the fact that it'd be less than a 3 hour nap is bothering me.
In truth, I don't even know how worthwhile the auction would be. Yes, there are a few items I want: A bookcase, some filing cabinets, a jeweler's workbench, an overhead projector.
The problem is that the various things I do want are parts of sale lots that contain a shitload of things I do NOT want.
I don't need desks or chairs. Every single item I listed above that I want come with... a desk and at least one chair. And yeah there's multiple file cabinets that are LOVELY for storage, but they EACH come with a desk and chair.
All those lots also come with a box of miscellany. A couple of them come with boxes containing somewhere around 10 to 12 Dell laptop bags. One of those lots has a box of ancient (and I mean ancient) calculators that may or may not function. One lot that contains something I would love to have also contains 5-7 boxes of insanely out of date reference books from the law enforcement school. Much as I hoard and love out of print and old books, I do not have any desire to own dozens of volumes of legal code and procedure from the 1950's...and the local public library probably won't be interested either.
Now if I could get the overhead projector lot for $15-20, and the other lots for $25-50 then no worries, I could just leave the junk I don't need behind or arrange for a resale store in the area to grab it. However, I strongly doubt I'll get any of those lots for that little, because most of those desks and chairs are pretty nice quality. (For that matter the bookcases and file cabinets I want are high quality, and one bookcase is even a real ANTIQUE I think.)
So yeah, I'm kinda stewing about it, and in my tiredness, I really don't think I want to even bother TRYING. The items are nice, but the hassle of having to figure out what the hell to do with the items I do not need or want is just... meh.
