Slacktivist has me wanting to do fanfic.
Yeah, I'm still rereading the LB fridays posts of old, and two possible stories to write have jumped out at me tonight again (they made me squee first time I read them too).
One is, a tale of clothing being raptured off of people. Instead of all those Left Behind Real True Christians vanishing and leaving only their clothes, Fred Clark brings up the idea of... all their clothes (and the clothing of all children in the world) vanishing instead.
...Yes. This would make a good story if properly handled.
And then there's this snippet:
Suddenly we're reading a book with spellcasting and magic in it. I tend to like books with spellcasting and magic in them, and I have no problem with crossbreeding genres, but this hadn't been that sort of book up until now and it doesn't seem fair for the authors suddenly to be changing the ground rules like this. So far LB has presented itself as a kind of Tom-Clancy-wanna-be thriller set in the apocalyptic world of the PMD End Times. The effect of suddenly introducing magic into this scenario is like if you were to read the new Clancy novel and learn that Jack Ryan was an alumnus of Hogwarts. The authors are violating the bargain they had established with the reader. That bargain had said that the world of LB was intended to be this world, or at least this world + divine wrath. This world + magic is not the same thing.
...so. Who else thinks that Tom Clancyverse + Harry Potterverse is a damn good idea?
"Deep in the belly of the stolen soviet submarine, Ryan knew... it would take more than a Patronus to save the free world!"

I probably won't actually get around to writing either. But they're damn great ideas, and I love Fred Clark for bringing them up.
