Why I Hate Western:
London is a rich, conservative community. Thus, there is nothing that anyone has an opinion about, ever. It's boring.
Looking for a Marxist? Go somewhere else.
Looking for feminism? That's a dirty word here.
Looking for an actor? Forget Brecht. The few that are here dream of a gig for a Pringle commercial.
Music and MIT are about the most far out programs at Western. There is no theatre program. Everything is so tame, no one stirs things up.
In my time here I have only seen three goths. Three. And two were really tame.
Everyone is obsessed with normal. Everyone is taking their acne medication, wearing their ugg boots, and listening to their formula pop music.
Here, smart is not sexy, slutty is sexy.
I'm in rez at Huron, which is the Country Club of Western. The catch phrase for Huron during O-week was "our rooms smell of rich mahogany". The starving student thing just doesn't happen here. People have cars (not just nice ones, really nice ones), and to take the bus is "gross".
To be a gay guy here is borderline. Somewhat acceptable because it's "trendy". But to be a lesbian is out of order.
The music program is different, it's a much more liberal program and has students from a variety of different backgrounds.
And I have made some really good friends, who are interesting people, here at Huron.
But overall, Western is a place that I can't wait to leave.
