Day 1...

Jan 01, 2007 18:49

Yeah, so I got up, went to the airport, 'coined' a new tradition and flew to St. John's. Then following the lead of my buddy Cato, who already goes to school at the Marine Institute, we got in the waiting car of his friend and drove to the apartments where the Navy lodges us.

One problem.

No one was here.

We tried many long distance and local numbers (as many a we could find) but to no avail. Cato had keys to his friend's apartment, so we were able to get in, out of the cold, and at no expense (and his currently away friend was kind enough to leave a router within my reach). It was only after several hours that Mr. Cato recalls seeing a Navy NCM in full uniform standing in the airport terminal and that perhaps we were supposed to meet this someone and get our keys and room assignments. *shrug* We have full use of his friend's apartment for the night; though since there's no food, I'll have to order something. We walked to McDonalds for a late lunch and that was cold enough; but Cato also just got a call from one of his friends and has gone out for the evening, leaving me alone in his friend's apartment... I suppose, as long as his friend's roommate doesn't come home and require a lengthy explanation, I won't worry too much.

Oh yeah, and the buildings the Navy rents units out of is on the approach path for the main runway at YYT and the next two scheduled arrivals should go overhead (depending on the winds) at approximately 20h05 and 20h10, local time.
