yeah I think that if the groups that run the ECT are all part of a non-profit religious organization (not a church), that it might be a good idea to call it a committee of the Org and reap whatever benefits a non-profit can give. I know me saying this is pointless, if not every running the ECT is part of any NE org that starts.
that being said:
Guys, it's your show. It's your event that you run for the community. Do it however you want to. I'm not trying to tell you your business. I'm just sharing my opinion. It's an outsider's opinion, I know. It's been 7 or 8 years (more? I don't know) since I was an official part of running the ECT. I don't and should not have any say in it. No one but the people running it should have say in it.
I respect your sovereignty. I respect you. I understand that you don't want people to start to think that you work for them. I know it adds to drama when too many people think they have a say.
As for a NE Org. I like the idea of having a non-profit org that serves as a community resource center and an umbrella org for any individuals or groups in our community who want to do charitable works as Heathens under a non-profit org.
I'm not huge on hierarchy (One of the reasons I'm not in a kindred is that I have a hard time with overly organized religion), but I recognize the need for administrative positions within a non-profit organization. I don't think I would like the org to be incorporated as a church. I don't want the org to have much to do with how any of us practice our religion, I want it to be about helping the community.
Right now we are working on a CD. We might end up publishing it though the ADF becuase they can do on demand publishing and we wont have to shell out 2K for a minimum order of printed up CDs. And in going with a pagan org, we would be getting a crap load of publicity within the pagan (including Heathen) community (our target audience) We are qasking the troth if they can do anything for us, but it doesn't seem likely. It's all up in the air right now, but my point is this: in the future, I think it would be really neat for the NE community to have a non-protic org that can do things like help publish books and CDs.
Mostly, right now, I would just like to see a North East Asatru On-Line Resource Center. It's a beginning and it doesn't mean joining anything. it would just mean that those of us who wanted to work on, could and those that didn't didn't and still everyone would benefit.
those are my two cents.
