Yesterday was a tough day for travel.
I woke up around 5 am feeling sick to my stomach- I'd taken codeine barely a few hours before which had knocked me out... I woke up in the middle of a deep sleep only to find that my paycheck for June 1st had NOT been deposited. I almost had a heart attack. We left RI around 6 am and drove through rain, wind and eventually.. what turned into 100+ degree weather when we crossed over onto I-80. Of course sections of I-80 were merged into single lanes.. and at one point we literally spent an hour in the car.. sitting.. still. Not a single inch. It was terrible. But I'm grateful: had it been Rhode Island, we would have been stuck there for hours. The longer I live in PA, the more I appreciate PA drivers. Somewhere along I-80 we noticed another RI plate.. and of course he was acting the fool, swirling into lanes, cutting people off, etc.
The trip wouldn't have been so bad, if it wasn't for the medication I'm on. The entire way I felt like vomiting.. and I had terrible diarrhea from point A all the way to Point B.
In the end I'm still missing my paycheck from the 15th.. but I did get my June 1st pay.. which of course is straight to rent :-)
Apparently while I was in RI, someone killed himself from jumping off his balcony in the A building.. ;;; I ALWAYS MISS EVERYTHING11!!!
Dad sent me packing with a crate of albums.. I'm so excited! I got everything from original press Jimi Hendrix to the Jackson 5! Mom gave me her treasured possession along with everything... her Jon Lucien Mind's Eye record (1974). The original album she kept with her all throughout college, straight from New York city.. the cover is so worn- both sides are ripped open, the sleeve was torn apart.. but the record itself is near mint. She was right when she said it's music I'd enjoy and love. It's serious groove with a political bite.
One thing I miss about RI, at least in my neighborhood, are the brothas and sistas. This place is pretty void of any racial mixing. There are plenty of people from China and India on student visas.. but it doesn't make me feel any better. (Actually it makes me feel worse..) There's no one I can really relate to...
Still though. It's okay.
I go back to work today but Jen was kind enough to make things easier for me.. no appointments today! Which is a good thing.. I'm not sure I'd be up to it otherwise.
AND YAY. DECAF, SUGAR-FREE CARAMEL ICED COFFEE!!
