hi. i'm new.
ok, it seems like most of you are in college so....I'm applying to college/waiting for acceptances. Right now I feel so conflicted because half of my family is telling me to go to an hbcu because i'm black (durr) and i should support/attend a black institution. the other half is telling me to go to an ivy league because being black in an ivy league offers more prestige and is almost guaranteed work once you graduate. unfortunately I can't do both, and there is no middle ground (if there is its too late for me to apply). I'm at the point where I almost don't care where I go to college, and I'm pretty sure I won't able to make any good choice when it actually comes to choosing a college if I have a lot of options. I'm just really confused, and I'm not quite sure what I'm asking anymore. Tell me this normal. how was the whole choosing a college, getting into college process for you all? how does it feel to be black, at a substantially white institution? I've heard about schools like Vanderbilt (which looks more and more like the school I will be attending)that have really tense race relations, have you experienced this?
why is this so hard?
& I'm one of those people who's gone through high school pretty much hating it, is college that much better? please tell me it is because I'm dying for a change.
hmm, this post was a lot longer than I though it would be.
