Moana

The new Disney cartoon based on legends of Oceania. There's even a sly dig at Disney princesses. And some of the songs were written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. I loved almost all of it, though as usual, could have lived without about 10 minutes worth of special effects.
I was the only one in the theater for a late-afternoon show on a weekday (bargain prices).
I have only seen three films in theaters in 2016, and two were animated (Zootopia and Moana). The third was Arrival.

I really liked their vision of the trickster Maui (that's Demigod to you, he'd say). His animated tattoos  were particularly neat. There was no credit to Pratchett's Nation, though I kept thinking the long list of writers credited with this "original" story must have read it. The journey through a narrow tunnel on this island paradise into a cave of ancestral revelation. . .and discovering that "we were voyagers!" is simply too close for coincidence. The plot and characters of Nation, however, are much more complex than those found in this film.

Still, definitely worth seeing and hearing on a large screen in a theater.
